So here is the deal, until recently I believed that the.223 was not a good round for deer hunting.

I began researching it when my daughter indicated that she wanted to hunt with her ar 15.

Well without writing a long essay here is the results of my efforts.

I have an AR 15 custom built with a 16” barrel with 1/7 twist.

The ammo I chose to hunt with was the Federal Fusion MSR in .62 grain.

The shot that was presented to me was a quartering away 125 yard shot on a large doe. Turns out to weigh 140 lbs.(largest doe I know of in SC)

The doe donkey kicked and darted into the woods. She ran in a very fast zig zag pattern until she was out of sight.

I located her within 50 yards of where she was hit. However ever there was zero blood trail or indication of being shot .

She had a small entrance wound.
No exit wound and no blood around nose or mouth.

However her belly and chest area had a bloated look and she had dislodged hair over her upper body.

Processing indicated that her lungs and heart had been vaporized and the swelling and hair was the result of internal pressure and when she was opened up everything just poured out like a Red stew.

There was no damage to any meat.

I will now use it as my primary deer hunting weapon.

Well done. It's a fine round for deer. Not allowed in California of course, yet I can use my .44 mag. Very strange.

"Endangered" Is a PC Term for "Unfit"

If we get rid of the mutant misfits who protect predatory animals, an automatic rifle would be needed by a bounty hunter in order to exterminate a whole wolf pack at once.

I hunted with a .243 like forever.........deer usually fell straight down or didn't go 10 yrds.....bought a .300 mag for Bear hunting and thought let's try it, had to track 3 deer 100+ yrds and decided it went through so fast they didn't know they were hit.........back to .243 I went

IMO .223 is a tumbler and if it kills men, it will kill deer

Firearms are much like golf clubs.... each has a speacialty....

I have at least one for every occasion... to include a .44 mag Ruger Super Black Hawk with a 7” barrel.

Golf is an activity I find lame. I have not found any occasion where my 44 or 06 would not take out the target.

I use to think Golf was for fat no athletic sissies.

    I was wrong.

So which do you use for quail or squirrels?

I’ve tak n them with firearms,Bows, sling shots and once killed a squirrel for dinner with a blowgun out of my dorm window.
