how much higher does the curve need to be to justify?

as far as diversification..how many years have we been on that path vs progress made?
Well the issue has been that we were "pre peak Oil" for most of that time, and as a nation we SUCk at long range planning. WE are now "post Peak Oil" and the rules have changed. The reality is that absent a massive "war time economy" style effort, we cannot catch up anymore. And any effort to do so will simply go towards making the PRC's expansion cheaper.

Oil is a global commodity and thus you cannot do anything to contain the costs WITHIN the USA without inherently paying for other nations. That's why pretty much every other nation in the world is aggressively pursuing ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCES...

Link to where I claimed 1 to 1 tracking. I claimed correlation and proved it. I conceded to your claim that other factors were at work
you said these were minor factors. The are not.
My guess is it's pretty inelastic.
Ahh but you do NOT KNOW... and yet you are drawing conclusions before doing the groundwork to understand the factors..

Typical

BTW it is quite inelastic, but there is some elasticity.

When we moved to Paris in 92, our gas was 4 bucks a gallon. We made it work. But we had a fantastic public transport system to help us. America needs to develop mass transit and better urban planning. The reason we need gas is because we don't live near our jobs...move us to the jobs and the gas issue goes away.
how big is france? how big is the USA? see any difference in land mass? see any difference in population saturation? ever heard of the rat syndrome?

and youre falling further behind every day. but its just one component in your slide from being the most innovative nation.

I'm no expert in these affairs - by any stretch. But, my guess is that "speculation" probably ends up evening itself out. For every period we go through in which we pay more than the market might otherwise demand, we probably go through an equal opposite period in which we pay somewhat less than the market might otherwise demand.

That's not to suggest though, that we shouldn't endeavor to smooth these swings out a tad, by returning ourselves to the former oil speculation regime that required the speculators to take actual delivery.
My belief is oil would be around 45.00 a barrow if they removed the little gift of never having to hold the oil you buy and sell. I would like to see a 90 days and it's a fixed delivery date. Your oil is coming. I have no idea how this market works, all I know is it's used to drive up the price of oil, and I believe they do the same with gas. But taking 3 systems to refine off line is a crock of shit, It's manipulation from the driller all the way to the cars tank.

and it ain't Obamas fault, if you say different I have a video for you.

Which only (of course) supports my original claim. I'm estimating the dollar decline accounts for about 75 cents of the price increase in gasoline since Obama came into office. Would YOU like to be paying 75 cents less? Probably another quarter is due to speculators going (extra) long due to the abject failure of his energy policy. That's a buck a gallon we can hang on him...

Except, of course, reverse the devaluation of your currency vis a vis foreign currencies. Hey Degs, I see you have a new cheerleader (Gabriel). You can have him, he's all yours...

And again the ignorance of how economics works comes radiantly to the forefront. Sorry I no longer find it surprising given that you think Studs Terkel was a commie...

Your credibility is less than that of Pat Buchanan's Buy American protectionism while driving a Mercedes....

And you "estimate" that STuds Terkel is a commie.... your "estimates" are about as meaningful as those of Joe McCarthy.

Of course, if your goal is to raise oil prices and destabilize the economy to make it ripe for a socialist "dictatorship of the proletariat" en route to a full on communist economy, your would certainly disagree...

Then you pass a ban on ALL drilling permits and don't renew them.
You pass administrative regs that essentially ban import of oil through Federally controlled ports.
You order the USCG and USN to interdict tankers headed for the USA and turn them away
You pull the USN away from protecting the tanker traffic lanes and explode the insuarance costs of those tankers...

you and Mr McCarthy, you are seeing reds around every corner.

Grow the Fack up. Just becuase someone isn't as radically rightist as you are doesn't mean they are a commie

Calling Studs Terkel a Commie

Get a facking life.

Well when Obama and persons in his administration (chu) have been calling for 5 dollar gas for a long time. This should please them as we will drive less and buy smaller cars. One problem it's an election year and Big O will take the blame for high prices . The best reason Not to live in an urban area is having to use public transportation.

Really? When? Lets see the evidence

This should please them as we will drive less and buy smaller cars.
And driving less and buying smaller cars is bad why?

One problem it's an election year and Big O will take the blame for high prices
right because no other POTUS has actually paid a political price for high gas prices... but I guess because Obama isn't really an american...
