Further proof liberals do not understand the concept of FREEDOM...

A baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex ceremony must serve gay couples despite his religious beliefs or face fines, a judge said Friday.

The order from administrative law judge Robert N. Spencer said Masterpiece Cakeshop in suburban Denver discriminated against a couple "because of their sexual orientation by refusing to sell them a wedding cake for their same-sex marriage."

The order says the cake-maker must "cease and desist from discriminating" against gay couples. Although the judge did not impose fines in this case, the business will face penalties if it continues to turn away gay couples who want to buy cakes.

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a complaint against shop owner Jack Phillips with the Colorado Civil Rights Commission last year on behalf of Charlie Craig, 33, and David Mullins, 29. The couple was married in Massachusetts and wanted a wedding cake to celebrate in Colorado.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mullins and Craig wanted to buy a cake in July 2012, but when Phillips found out the cake was to celebrate a gay wedding, he turned the couple away, according to the complaint.

Nicolle Martin, an attorney for Masterpiece Cakeshop, said the judge's order puts Phillips in an impossible position of going against his Christian faith.

"He can't violate his conscience in order to collect a paycheck," she said. "If Jack can't make wedding cakes, he can't continue to support his family. And in order to make wedding cakes, Jack must violate his belief system. That is a reprehensible choice. It is antithetical to everything America stands for."

The Civil Rights Commission is expected to certify the judge's order next week. Phillips can appeal the judge's order, and Martin said they're considering their next steps.

Mullins said he and Craig are "ecstatic."

"To a certain extent, though, I don't think that this is necessarily a surprise," he said. "We thought it was pretty clear cut that he had discriminated against us."

Mullins said he hopes the "decision will help ensure that no one else will experience this kind of discrimination again in Colorado."

The local government there have an anti discrimination law in retail businesses. But any who wish to discriminate are not required by law to open a business there.

So I suppose you have no issues with locality's laws on voter I.D.'S or Texas state abortion laws then? Just move if you don't like it, correct?

I'm glad the Right links "freedom" to bigotry so often.

Again assures the continuing limits on the GOP's growth in the future. A party of old white straight males who hate everybody who isn't "them"..

Leave it to you to completely ignore the truth, precedent, and further display you are clueless on the concept of freedom. You demonstrate my point precisely.
Yes, in a FUBU nation you actually have the right to be a bigot, or discriminating businessperson. Imagine that!

Exactly....if you want to discriminate against any group, move to a place where they practice bigotry. If it was legal to discriminate against gays in my community, I wouldn't be able to live here.

Those discriminate intentionally. So yeah; I have an issue with them. But it's a I don't like discrimination thingy.

Thus anti discrimination, sign regs, and such are okay, but not anything which would discriminate, like for example some stupid regulation obviously designed to make it more difficult for Christians to attend mass.

Your nonsense doubletalk didn't do much to sway the sense that you don't have much understanding of or respect for people's freedom to think, act, and offer services as they wish. You don't get it, that's obvious.

Bullcrap. If you really believed that, or if liberals practiced it, we wouldn't be hearing so much squawking about Florida gun laws, Texas abortion laws, or voter I.D. Laws, you'd just "move away" from them. Liberals, on the other hand, ish to use groupthink to prosecute thoughtcrimes (aka hate crimes).

There are other choices. Your Baker could move to a place where he wouldn't have to make a wedding cake for gay people or he could stay there and fight the law demanding overt discrimination.
When I moved from New York City and we were looking for places in Maryland the first thing I looked for was if it was a liberal or conservative place to live.

So you don't think there should be laws against discrimination? This same baker shouldn't have to bake a cake for a black couple because he doesn't like blacks? Or if the man looked like some right wing idiot with a squirt flower on his lapel and the baker was a liberal, it'd be okay if he didn't make their cake?

It merely was not the answer you hoped your stupid question would have to yield since what you thought was so clever and logical overlooked the obvious flaw in your logic (lack of).

And freedom to open a business enterprise has rules in every market on earth. But all are free to choose if and where they open an enterprise.

And it's vital to other businesses. An area might attract consumers who are more educated and progressive, so regs to assure businesses operate on ways that do not ruin the reputation of that retail zone and scare away consumers the businesses in that area depend on.

For example, I might consider it an infringement of my freedom to open a porn shop in retail zone limited to antique dealers and related food and gift shop type of Enterprises that have signage regulations which preserve the quaint aesthetic that attracts people to the area which would be offput by my racy neon and provocative digital printing covering windows, it would harm other businesses and the draw the area has for their target consumers. Ditto out by the mall. A neo Nazi training center with gun range would not get a license to operate the business since it would harm the image and draw of buyers to that retail zone, which regulates businesses to protect them from others who would damage the surrounding businesses.

Get a job. Open a business. You'll maybe begin to understand, albeit I think it's a long shot. No worries though. More knowledgeable people are managing business zones.

The free market will thus be protected from stupid people screwing things up by doing stuff they think is okay, not knowing they're stupid and left to your own devices you'd [Unwelcome language removed] up a wet dream.

nothing of baking a cake for blacks was an issue......baking a cake for butt-packers was the issue...........of course liberals must play their bankrupt race cards in every thread....

Many businesses have signs saying "We have the right to refuse service to anyone". Guess what? Legally they do- to some degree.

I guarantee you if Tom and Dick walked into a bakery and wanted a cake for Harry and Harriet they'd get one, regardless of their relationship. Wouldn't you say?

Then what would you do....disown them or all of a sudden change your mind like Portman? Okay for his kid NOW, but was wrong for others. Damn hypocritical republicans want it both ways.

I hate gays now??

See the problem in your tiny hateful little mind is that any con must hate all people different from him. You think I hate women, Mexicans, blacks, and now gays.

You're mentally ill, you know that? You believe every single nugget of misinformation fed to you and parrot them shamelessly. It's not hard to post like you do, just cast aspersions and project rather than discuss any actual topic.
