No, it saved a future victim the trauma and risk of death or serious harm. When one engages in criminal activity they are risking their lives. They take the chance they will be killed doing what they will. If their life matters so little to them, then it shouldn't matter to anyone else.

If you fear for your life and killing is the only way out, you can legally shoot someone in self-defense. That doesn't seem to be what happened here.

1. You are assuming there would've been future victims with no evidence. In this country we are supposed to try and convict people (as opposed to summarily execute them) for crimes they have committed, not for crimes they might or might not commit in the future.
2. So if instead of armed robbery, the guy was smoking a joint, and the off-duty cop shot him, you'd be OK with that too?
3. Here you say the victim of an armed criminal should've run away and NOT fought back.
