How Capitalism Profits from Racism

If Marxist professor RD Wolff is correct when he claims, "(c)apitalism's supporter use and benefit from a racism whose practice and consequences should be blamed on capitalism itself," then it follows "(r)acism persists in no small part because its benefits to capitalism outweigh its costs."

http://www.democracyatwork.info/how_capitalism_and_racism_support_each_other

"We know how and why racism worked often to support slavery around the world and especially in the early United States. Masters endorsed and promoted ideas that justified slaves as subordinated because they were an inferior race. Racist ideology also sometimes supported feudalism by dividing lords and serfs into different races. Indeed, some early capitalist systems likewise racially distinguished employers from employees..."

"Certain population groups -- conceived as races -- were deemed underdeveloped, incapable, irrational and/or psychologically disqualified in relation to capitalism's productive rigors. Such presumed inferiority was then offered as an explanation for why people of some races were rarely employers and, among employees, were those last hired and first fired, poorly paid, ghettoized etc."

No one claims capitalism is the only cause or source of US racism, but ignoring or minimizing its role only perpetuates its existence in the "free" world.

Well one thing we can be sure is that this "Marxist professor" has every reason to completely fabricate a theory linking capitalism and racism. The very notion is preposterous. But I guess the end justifies the means.

As usual, you have it ass backwards and here is why.

Racist capitalist will lose money as they refuse to service selected consumers. Reality is, there are very few racist capitalist as they are not concerned about a persons skin color, rather than the content of a their wallet.

It is Governments & Democrats who profit from racism.

Capitalism was born of human slavery.

"According to the Financial Times of London June 26, 2009:

“Two of the biggest names in the City of London had previously undisclosed links to slavery in the British colonies, documents seen by the Financial Times have revealed.

"Nathan Mayer Rothschild, the banking family’s 19th-century patriarch, and James William Freshfield, founder of Freshfields, the top City law firm, benefited financially from slavery, records from the National Archives show, even though both have often been portrayed as opponents of slavery.”

In this case one of the Ends would be his paycheck...and so he becomes figurative equal of those capitalistic villains he seeks to profile by benefiting from his prognostications financially. Kinda funny eh?

Slavery has existed in all sorts of economic models. We could almost as easily say that there's a link between people who like matzo balls and slavery.

How do you justify institutionalized racism in the US...
http://www.democracyatwork.info/how_capitalism_and_racism_support_each_other

"'Racism' is so often applied to US prison statistics and policing; to data on differences in employment, housing, wealth and income distributions, college enrollments, film awards, and so much more; and to hardening hostilities toward immigration. At the same time, racism is so often condemned -- at least in mainstream media, dominant political circles and most intellectual and academic institutions. Racism's persistence where the capitalist economic system prevails raises the question of the connection between capitalism and racism."
...without including capitalism?

Why do some money slaves automatically assume every other human being bases her life on how many dollars he can earn?

Marx believe the state began forming its institutions during a stage of human history when there were basically two kinds of people. Those who voluntarily indebted themselves to another in order to survive (slaves) and those who "owned" the slaves. This stage gave way to feudalism which gave way to capitalism about five hundred years ago. Hopefully, whatever economic system comes next, will cut the umbilical cord with slavery.

How is my being forced to be responsible for paying the bills of the meth addict family down the street NOT "slavery?"

The best answer I've heard to that question comes from one aspect of economic democracy which says every tax payer deserves a ballot with each bill telling government exactly where the taxpayer's money should be spent. Of course, if you're serious about having meth heads on your block, you might want to visit the local gun store first.;)

That is such bullshit. Slavery comes from the SOCIALIST parts of the world. Slavery is the total OPPOSITE of Capitalism.

Racism supports (and it has ALWAYS supported) the Democrat Party. They are about as capitalist as Karl Marx.

And only a total fcking IDIOT would think a Marxist professor is right about anything.

You guys have a funny double standard. It's not slavery if the majority votes to take most of what I make to support the unproductive? That's absurd!

Capitalism is an aesthetic ideal that gets reformed in its reflection of a given civilization and its values. Capitalism doesn't create, sanction, or perform better with slavery as a component. Most 1st world capitalism came to that realization some time ago and got rid of actual slavery.

In the same way Rothschild is the OPPOSITE of wealth?

"These families who are presently the ruling global trillonaires families were probably the biggest slavers of all times in global history but their participation in the evil and illegal trade was always suppressed until recently.

"In fact, historical accounts have been misrepresented to showcase the anti-slavery efforts of these ruling elites.

"Mr. Nathan Mayer Rothschild: Slavery and the Rise of Capitalism in the west

"Nathan Mayer Rothschild was the leading London financier of his times. He was one of the founders of the international Rothschild family banking dynasty. He was born in the Frankfurt-am-Main ghetto, the fourth child of Mayer Amschel Rothschild and Gutle Schnapper.

"He ostensibly operated first as a textile merchant in Manchester but was deeply involved in financing, loansharking and speculation on the slave trading exchange of Manchester, a British city which competed with Liverpool and London as the international capital of slave trading.

"Having made so much profit from slave trading and financing in the Manchester slave exhange, he then expanded to dealing on the London stock exchange."

Capitalism (private ownership), existed way before slavery. And about 6000 years before socialism/communism/fascism.

Southern plantation slave owners and medieval fiefdoms took better care of their slaves/serfs than a democratic collectivist/fascist govt ever will today.

That like how democratics profit from racism

The democratic claims republicans are the racist...just goes on and on

The lies about slavery, starting a civil war, segregation, voting against civil rights..

But then what is left is lefty needs racism or else the point is invalid.

Lefty the democratic needs racism more than anybody.

"The history of capitalism can be traced back to early forms of merchant capitalism practiced in Western Europe during the Middle Ages.[1] It began to develop into its modern form during the Early Modern period in the Protestant countries of North-Western Europe, especially the Netherlands and England. Traders in Amsterdam and London created the first chartered joint-stock companies driving up commerce and trade, and the first stock exchanges and banking and insurance institutions were established.[2]"

"Over the course of the past five hundred years, capital has been accumulated by a variety of different methods, in a variety of scales, and associated with a great deal of variation in the concentration of economic power and wealth.[3] Much of the history of the past five hundred years is concerned with the development of capitalism in its various forms."

Capitalism isn't a lefty/righty thing.
It's a morality thing.
http://www.democracyatwork.info/how_capitalism_and_racism_support_each_other

"Capitalists never could end their system's tendency to generate gross inequality (in wealth and income distributions) nor its instability (in cycles of depression and recession). Both those features of capitalism have contributed to ongoing social injustice and oppositional social movements. Had the heavy burdens of recurring business cycles (periodic unemployment and its multiple consequences) been distributed roughly equally or randomly across societies where capitalism prevailed -- threatening and frightening everyone -- those oppositional movements might well have gathered the broad support needed to consign capitalism to an early demise."

Why would you object to getting a ballot every time you paid your taxes which enabled you to dictate to the government how it spends your money?
