It's hard to do that when the sock puppet suspicion is there.
But we do have new posters who are not from the Slate heritage. You are one of those, aren't you, connie?

I think we enjoy the new posters once it is certain they are actually new posters.

Yes, I did not come from Slate. Back when you all were on Slate, Gigi and I were on another forum. Gigi found this place and recommended it to me, and here I am. I think sometimes the more argumentative side comes out of people - and even when they don't know if its a sock-puppet or not, they start it with something like " that is the dumbest post I have ever seen". Its one thing if someone I have been posting iwth for years tells me that - it is an entire new thing if I have finally worked up the courage to post and that is my response. I wonder how many people have been run off by that kind of poor attitude, so it would be nice, if people remembered that there are actual people on the other side of that keyboard.

Want to improve the board, start by policing yourselves. It takes two to ignite a flamewar. Are egos that important that its more important to blast someone because he or she does not see eye to eye with you on any particular issue. Or more often than not ,retaliate by getting in the last jab. I go on boards to have a discussion and say what I think. Want to disagree with me go ahead, I always enjoy a discussion.(Note I did not say debate) How hard is is it to walk away from a heated coversation?

I agree Connie....and that's exactly what happened to me (but I stuck around!). It didn't take too many of my posts for everyone to know I was a conservative, and the bashing began by the liberals. I wasn't one of them, I was the enemy. Heck, it was only a couple weeks ago I was accused of being a sock puppet! I didn't even know what one was! Lol!

I'm willing to be just as nice to someone as they are to me. But I won't sit back and let them tell lies and make up stories to suit their agenda. I always try to give the "newbie" a chance. It usually doesn't take long to see if they're really here for good conversation or just to disrupt things.

Dawg, that is how the whole ROC mod ROC, and LOC mod LOC fell apart. ROC posteres wanted ROC mods to give them a break, and LOC posters wanted LOC mods to give them a break. Then everyone complained when it seemed like ROC mods were harder on ROC posters than LOC mods were on LOC posters.

You can't show a preference when you Mod. It doesn't work and leads to even more screaming of preference. We try very hard to be entirely neutral when we mod no matter what side of the aisle we are on.

I know I am just trying to say lets not be so hard on Phil because he doesn't give Righties any favortisim. The fact that he doesn't - is what makes him an awesome mod. But, I understand where you are coming from because when the peer mod system was introduced, it was certainly intimated that the purpose was so righties would go easy on righties, and lefties would go easy on lefties.

Good point.
While those of us from Slate .........and those who have known us a while.........can say that to each other and it stings, but we know it's absurd, it's not good to say that to a brand new person.

We need to think about that person on the other side of the computer --even if it's someone we've bickered with for years.

New posters still have to have the stomach to post here. I have brought in a number of new posters........and their names sit there unused. I brought lurkers I am not certain why, but I do know, sadly, that ex-Slate posters are a brutal bunch.

We do have new posters, but every new poster that posts more than once has to go through the testing process that includes being accused of being a sock puppet and reviled for what is sometimes a long period of time at being thought of as someone's secret and stinky sock........... (for just one example of that grueling process).

Slate posters are prolific posters for sure......... we resurrected this board when it was almost dead and we keep it alive. But. We (not necessarily intentionally) keep new posters at bay by our brutality.

Still.......... I think that the ideas you put forth are worth a shot. What we really need is another Slate-type site to close down sending its rabid posters here. Ahhh....

Oh yeah, that would liven things up, careful what they wish for...Someone might exhume the "Bitch slap possy" then things would get exciting.
