How to undo what's been done...

I am growing so tired of the media. There once was a time when the media was respected. It is where you got your updates on the world and all the happenings. Now you cannot trust a word said. Everything has to be taken with a grain of salt as to its truthfulness.
I don't trust the Media at all.

No..you drew no parallel. Instead you cited places like Afghanistan which where exploited by Bolshevik influenced...not similar to
Afghanistan and Russia had similar standards of living in 1917, when socialists took over the USSR and for decades put an end to Russian empire-building in Afghanistan. My only point.

it seems to me that we cant even talk. it used to be that we all pretty much agreed on the basic facts we just disagreed about what to do about it.

Nowdays the left and the right do not agree on basic facts.

In my opinion, between Rush Limbaugh types on AM radio, Fox News, and right wing propaganda on the internet the right no longer understands the basic facts and is wholly ensconced in a bubble of "alternative facts" made just for them.

we cannot talk when half the country doesn't understand or will not accept the basic facts.

my hope for the future of this country is that when the truth about Trump, that the rest of the country and world can see, but the right cannot, finally pierces the right wing media bubble, that the right will realize their "news" sources have been lying to them for ages....that they will finally start insisting on facts from their media even when those facts are not what they want to hear.

Cue all the righties saying it is the left that lives in a fact free bubble......but consider this.....why do the fact checkers agree with the left far more than the right?

is it because they are all biased?

or is it that the left has the facts on their side more often?

Think about it.
A reasonable hope. But when the right could not longer deny they had been duped by Bush their propagandists shifted the blame to the moderate left that was willing to compromise with Bush on a common commitment to liberal democracy in an effort to stampede people into rubber-stamping Trump’s war on liberal democracy.

The White Terror involved death camps and pogroms. The White leadership was overwhelmingly Russian. The Reds were disproportionately led by minorities ... Jews, Poles, Ukrainians, etc. The Reds also had the support of a majority of every ethnic group (including Russians) except the Cossacks ... largely because they did not support the racist brutality that was endemic under the Czars. But go ahead, call them “genocidal despots.”

You just demonstrated the reason there can and will be no reconciliation. There is no room for any reflection by a certain movement in this country. 100% of any and all accountability is allocated to the others. Not some. Not most. All. Zero self-examination, zero introspection, zero humility.

The blistering political rhetoric of our time is more than mere rhetoric. It betrays the guts of the politically interested across BOTH parties.

I’ll agree that the right bears some responsibility for the decline in civility, the coarseness of dialog, and even much bad policy. This doesn’t threaten me in the least. It creates no discomfort. And...it is true - so I am gratified by speaking honestly.

I’ll just leave it there. Maybe...just maybe this “primes” some mechanism.

because facts matter

accountability is often lobsided.

one side is operating on facts most of the time, the other on alternative facts.

it didn't used to be that way.

the change was on the right with the rise of conservative AM radio starting in the 80's and then Fox news, and then right wing web sites like brietbart and world net daily and such.

The sources the right calls 'the liberal media' are the basically the same sources we've had for generations, the NY Times, The Washington Post, NBC, CBS, ABC. etc.

the change happened on the right. the bubble of alternative facts rose on the right.

the left is still relying on the same basic sources we all used to just call "the news".

Not racially motivated. It was brutal but the brutality was intended to send a message to those who were actually operating death camps and carrying out pogroms that they would be brutally punished for their actions.

This is purely opinion...i just grabbed a close enough link.. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/12/opinion/polarization-politics-democrats-republicans.html

I caught a snippet on the radio today....from what i gathered I was catching the tail end of a dialogue that basically can be summarized thusly:

How can a presidential candidate, or any candidate for an office for that matter, heal the divides in this country, when all we speak, see, hear, view in media, etc... drives an ever widening polarity.

We are fed, incessantly...hate. We are mired in distrust. Our children are taught from the poles of a position.

How?
Yeah the thing that has really elevated lately is the idea that it is virtuous to hate other Americans who disagree with you on policy.

But not just hate them in silence, no, you have to get in their face and spew hatred at them. If you don't, your only enabling their right to exist, or to feel welcome in the world. (So tolerant, I know).

And it doesn't even stop there. You don't just spew hatred at them, in any policy debate you avoid policy and equate them to moral evil.

You want to lessen gun homocides? We can't just disagree on how to do it, you're an NRA loving evil gun-owner with blood on your hands who doesn't care about school shootings.

See how that works?

When is baby in the womb protected by the law? We can't just disagree on when it becomes protected, You're a hateful mysoginest pig who desires the slavery of women!!

Are borders for a country safe and protective of its citizens? We can't just disagree on this, You're a just a xenophobe who hates third world people.

You wear the American flag and fly it? ( Here, let me throw all the buzzwords in here).. You're a slave-loving, racist, Bigoted, anti-woman, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobe!!

... Yeah.

As long as that is much of the discourse coming from many folks of an entirely ideology, including the mainstream media, hollywood, Big Tech, and Academia... all teaming up to to beat down another ideology.. it's not going to get any better soon. An entire half of American politics has sprinted maniacally radically in a direction, demanding actions that are often outside of the scope of its values and laws. Gigantic political shifts like this cause tension, uneasiness, and often worse.

However, if the 2016 election reminded me of anything, it's that as much power as the media has to shape how hopeless it is for anyone to stand up to the agenda they have pledged to fight for and protect, as long as elections are legitimate, the people can smell a phony, and that's what happened to the loser in 2016.

Name a program that the government does more cost efficient then the private sector?

I worked at DFAS the military accounting division and I can tell you there is nothing the US Government does efficiently.

At this point I believe all the MSM sources tend to bend the truth. CNN seems to be the biggest culprit.
Yes, FoxNews lies to you as they peddle conspiracy theories that gullible authoritarians swallow whole. OAN does the same.
