Exactly right, SW. No one, to the best of my knowledge, has ever said we should not fly into West Africa with medical supplies and aid workers. Democrats are lying when they imply that we're advocating simply abandoning Ebola-stricken countries... but that's what they do... lie, and exaggerate.

Temporarily closing the door into the US to people who are arriving from those countries, while they're being checked for exposure, is common sense and wouldn't be too hard to do.

Ok...so we stop anyone with those three countries on their visas within the last three weeks....but what of someone who travels to London from Monrovia, comes into contact with a citizen of the US who then travels to the US, carrying Ebola? It gets even more complicated from there. The only way to do a quarantine is to either get all countries to participate or to stop all passenger traffic leaving those countries....and that is both by air as well as train or car.

You are basically talking about shutting down the economies of those countries. Just so's you know.

A member of Congress who wants to ban travel from countries afflicted by the Ebola outbreak appeared to be unaware of a key fact -- that there are no direct flights between the U.S. and Liberia, Guinea or Sierra Leone.

In a Friday morning appearance on MSNBC, Rep. Dennis Ross (R-Fla.) argued that instituting a flight ban, regardless of what experts say, makes sense and said he plans to introduce a bill doing so once Congress reconvenes in November.

"I believe we can nip this in the bud, if you will, at least by banning those flights temporarily until such time as the [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] believes the epidemic is under control and also make sure we don't issue visas to travelers from over there. We have a good border patrol, believe it or not, and they can catch these people with fake passports and fake visas as they come across the border. It just seems to me we ought to have the debate on this and flush this out and that's why I filed the bill to allow for the banning of these flights," he said.


Since there are no direct flights between the hardest-hit nations and the United States, the Florida Republican was pressed to specifically identify which flights he wanted to impose restrictions on.

So you mean that we set up quarantine areas in the US for people who have traveled to any of those countries ? Because if the person has visited to some other country in between their travels to any of those nations. You can't expect that every other country they may have visited will set up and fund a quarantine system for travel to the US.
