Thought I'd drop off one more:

Icarus

Torn from the loins of a jealous seed
foreboding shadows conceal the maze
of festering loam engorged with deceit
unknown to a god sent child.
Convoluted structure, connections
drawn from the seed, imprison a child,
seemingly free, no less than Minotaur
creator of labyrinth.
Soaring escape, winged freedom
at sea, tied by a father's quest,
exodus nears in tumbling failure,
finally the child breaks free.

I like this very much. Funnily enough it's a subject i treated on a poetry board I belong to for a competition they were running!

An interesting poem, and one that improves with each reading. I especially enjoy the classical allusion, and I'd forgotten that Daedalus and Icarus were escaping the maze.

Thanks. Icarus gets around. ;) This one was used in a display on Icarus. I didn't do the reading but they had someone read it and when viewers looked at the art they were able to press the button and hear the poem. I never got to hear it but just liked the concept.

If the contest is still on I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. ;)

Thanks. I'll need all the help I can get, and I'm definitely going to use some allusions to antiquity or mythology. Perhaps some Latin or Greek.
