I wonder how many of you use the internet to have some form of contact to the outside world???

If so what type of loser are you???

Are you so desperate for friends that being a pal on a political message board make your day???

To be honest I would never meet any of you in real life... In fact I have been ask a few times to exchange emails and did not because of security risk and wanting to keep my personal life seperated from my internet life... I also do this with my work life... I have only had one co-worker at my house because I do not want my work to go in to my personal life... I do no go to company or co-workers parties and yes I am invited but I still prefer to keep my private life to myself...

So I do not have Pals here... Actually I can not stand almost all of you... I said almost and not all of you...

So how many of you are Pals and if you have Pals here what type of loser are you???

I am very careful of who gets to be my Pal. It wasn't always so. In the beginning - over 10 years ago when I first came to the internet I was pretty clueless. I allowed some people from political sites to have my e-mail and I met a couple of them personally. One woman I met was harmless as it turned out. The man I met, luckily I had my whole family in tow to meet him as we passed through his city on a family trip, and he was much smaller than the three men in my family. So although he turned out to be a real nut case, all was safe........... my address, e-mail, phone number and all pertinent info he may have had have changed since that little incident. I learned my lesson.

The internet is still relatively new and I am sure that most of us have made a few mistakes along the way. I am quite certain that we learn from those mistakes as we should. I'm not looking for Pals here..... never really did look for that.

Yeah, I've got Internet pals/friends, quite a lot of them. I'm severely disabled, and housebound. so, the internet, and the people in it, are my window on the world. Most of my worldly friends are either dead or moved away.

A loser, I don't think so. A couple of weeks and I'll be 70. I've been around the world about 3 times. I've lived on a mountain for 2 years, lived, and fought in jungles, from Africa, Sarawak, Borneo, South America, crossed deserts, been in both the Arctic, and the Antarctic, fished most of the worlds' seas, made love to a lot of lovely women, including two Eskimos (female ones). I've been a foreign exchange dealer, CEO of an international computer company, a financial advisor, a nightclub manager, a bodyguard, head of security for an international bank - made a lot of money, and spent it - enjoyed doing so. Did 17-1/2 years in HM armed forces, been a mercenary. I've been an advanced close combat instructor, a fencing instructor, I've taught various branches of the London Met police tactical hand-gunning. I've parachuted out of aircraft, including HALOs. I've done scuba diving, I've been in submarines, and deployed from them - and you call me a loser because I have Internet friends.

How does your non-loser existence compare? Ever been out of hicksville?

I won't bore you with the origin and causes, other than to say I called him and his fellow McSame voter jen pals, which he took offense to. That's what prompted this insult to many of a non-political and very personal kind that the poor thing chose callously and with no thought whatsoever for the feelings of others, to post, but suffice it to say imo it has more to do with his insecurities than anything else.

I'd guess those range from his possibly looking like a young Elephant Man, to worries about somebody he's worked tirelessly to piss off in a place like this, performing some crude plastic surgery without benefit of any anesthesia.

Your example is likely to become the rule rather than the exception for many/most of us, but it takes a few brains to figure that out without being told. What you've noted is one of the lesser acknowledged benefits of the internet -- keeping our seniors in touch with the world and others in a measure not enjoyed by them before, which adds to the quality of their lives.

I'm well-educated and well- traveled too, Wulk, though not as much are you are. I have lived in 8 time zones and enjoyed everyone of them. And I am somewhat disabled (not making money off of it) (and I don't talk about it) and early-retired and/or a housewife with my family grown. I am somewhat housebound (I don't talk about that either), and I am younger than you. But my life has had ample excitement and I am glad .......thankful........to be able to sit in a lovely home and be able to enjoy the internet.

I have plenty of real pals and have no need of internet pals. From time to time some who are in need of a pal have latched on to me and I enjoy it for as long as it lasts. If I expect nothing but some temporary camaraderie from a person on the internet, then I get it and it is appreciated and enjoyed and remembered fondly when it's gone. Nothing lasts forever. I'm happy with my life, so whatever comes and goes in it is all good. When someone wrongs me, I consider it something they need to do, and wish them well. It's easy to invest too much in a person that really doesn't care or deserve it........ I tend to do that...........but I'm learning to invest less, enjoy more. Life is suppose to be a learning experience anyway, isn't it?
