Your use of "state" contra my use of "nation" is telling. A state is defined by it's borders; a nation by it's people. Clearly we disagree about some points, among them whether Hitler was defending a nation (which in fact suffered greatly under his rule, before and after the war he started) or an imperialist state. I think the Jews, Roma, Poles, Czechs, Russians, Ukrainians, Belorussians, Greeks, French, Norwegians, Danes, Africans, Sorbians, etc., might agree with the characterization of German imperialism as predatory.

So you think we deny that any regime was ever communist? Lenin was Communist, and he made mistakes and suffered setbacks. Fidel Castro was Communist, and he made mistakes and suffered setbacks. The much worse failures of regimes like Stalin’s are not unrelated to the betrayals of communism that communists were quick to diagnose and resist from the beginning.



Stalin broke with basic fundamentals of communism, internationalism to begin with. As a Russian chauvinist, nationalist, and anti-Semite he deviated from communism in a direction one might term national-socialist.

Also, let me make it clear (for anyone to whom it was not) that I am not saying Stalin was in fact a “National Socialist” in the Hitler sense ... just that his middle-class, nationalist, counterfeit socialism had a certain resemblance to the counterfeit socialism of Hitler ... and, indeed, of social democrats like Bernie Sanders. Yet these are 3 distinct variants of counterfeit (and counterrevolutionary) socialism, and Stalin’s had more in common with Sanders’s in many ways.

Anyway, that top photo is certainly unacceptable, but that’s an old folks’ home, not a hospital. It is from the most remote, poor, and rural province in the country, and from immediately following severe flooding during the hurricane season, when personnel were pulled away from homes like that to help with emergency evacuations and restoring power.
