Yes, because (obviously) unsound money and bureaucratically determined interest rates are much better for economic strength. Ahem.Fantasy. Specie for example means a less elastic money market which means depressions last longer; interest rates are always determined by the market (central banks are a mechanism by which the market sets interest rates, one preferred by the market since it reduces uncertainty) in a capitalist country.
Actually it means expansions last longer and downturns end sooner, because it's hard to develop (and maintain) market imbalances with real money and interest rates.
