Let's talk about the National Debt, in real terms.

How could Al gore give China anything? He was never more than VP!

Gore did sell his TV station to Jazeera. Time Warner cancelled thei station next day. Now,surprise, they are bringing it back to their line up. I would like to see it. Sure could not be worse than the shouting, screeching scandal mongers who are destroying any credibility they have daily!
It was some sort of business deal ? I don't remember ...................

Al Jazeera is no longer credible since its Gov joined the western fold.

Here is roughly how the National Debt is broken down. Roughly because it changes over time.

A percentage of debt.

U.S. individuals and institutions 30.4%
U.S. Social Security Trust Fund 16.7%
U.S. Federal Reserve 10.8%
U.S. Federal Services Retirement Fund 5.6%
U.S. Military Retirement Fund 2.4%
China and Hong Kong 8.1%
Japan 7.0%
Oil Exporters 1.7%
Brazil 1.6%
UK 0.9%
All other nations 14.8%

As you can see, U.S. individuals and institutions own 30%, government agencies own over 35%. Out of that $17 trillion debt, we owe ourselves over 65%. Which part of that debt do you think they would abolish if they had the chance? Think they'd hurt their oil exporting buddies? How about the overseas sweat shops who manufacture your clothing these days? No, my guess is they'd abolish the Social Security System, Federal Retirement accounts, and pat themselves on the back for a job well done.

Really are you trying to make a point here? ...if youwere to make a point about the debt...you should have on that

A.) Discusses any plan to reduce the debt

B.) What is the debt number.

Personally I give my money...in taxes...based on current salary over 50 percent...and with as little as I make...idont think any of you lefties would even consider paying this much in taxes.

The debt is a 17.1 trillion and rising everytime Obama raises the debt ceiling...it was 10.6 when he started...in fact since Oct 15 Obama has spent almost one half of a trillion dollars..since the democrats controlled 2/3rd of the whites...either Senate, House or Presidency or all three the debt has risen 8.5 trillion dollars...you want to have a real conversation...you tell us how are you going to pay back the debt....

And here is the effen real conversation...guesss how much debt we would incur if politicians had to pay back overages out of their own pocket....none and you know it. We would never be having this convesation.

Personally if the goverment runs no debt...and recieves income...they could spend the money left over after supporting our military and emergency services on anything they like...if they want to give a grant to check the sizes of monkey nuts...wouldnt care...but if they are running a debt...a burden to be bared by the tax payer due to washington's mismanagement...then no I have a say...balnce the budget...and pay off the debt.

The conversation could have grown from there, if people chose to take it to that point. But my desire was to dispel some of the myths about our debt. China does not own us, and our trade deficit is part of the debt. We can go a step further. We do not need a bunch of super carriers at $10 billion minimum. We could end these two foreign involvements that are draining our coffers..... and by the way bush would have had to pay back a whole lot of pennies for all his emergency spending bills, if politicians had to do what you suggested. And I am not 'not supporting the troops'. When I was serving we didn't have contractors making our meals, washing our uniforms, or even building our facilities. Look at the billions that were spent on non-military personnel, and yet the facilities were unsafe. But I think we'll just leave the monkey nuts alone, and give a rebate instead.

You have to admit, it is somewhat interesting to see those who call anyone that has problems with ruthless or bottom-line-only capitalism (vs. capitalism with concern about social and environmental impacts) "communists" and "socialists" have few problems with capitalizing off of cheap labor in a communist nation where the paychecks of the workers, meager as they might be, go to support a communist government economy while leaving one American worker for every foreign worker unemployed and without money to spend to support the American economy.

Also interesting that for all the complaints about the highest corporate tax rates (if one does not figure the "effective" rate) in the world and exporting low and middle wage jobs, those corporations do not change their registration nationality to where they'd get a better tax rate.

As much as some want to make debt a major focus of their campaigns, debt, in of itself is not the problem, a commitment and ability to pay it off is. I can't pay for a large upcoming expense by cutting my income. I also cannot expect anyone would consider cutting my income after just making a big purchase to be the most intelligent or fiscally responsible thing to do.

I also would not expect anyone to believe that I was fiscally responsible if I contributed to this http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2013/1107/Government-shutdown-didn-t-save-money.-It-cost-2-billion-report-says.-video , in the process of trying to protest too much government spending and debt.
