McCain Should Be Removed from Office

Arkady

President
John McCain, that infected boil on the ass of American public life, has said "I promise you that we will be united against any Supreme Court nominee that Hillary Clinton, if she were president, would put up.”

It was a serious dereliction of duty not to hold hearings on Obama's nominee for the court, but at least the Republicans could pretend it was about the fact there'd be a new president in just a year. Now that it looks highly likely they won't get a Republican president like they expected, McCain is basically promising to keep that seat empty for five years running if the Republicans have the Senate majority (plus additional seats if more justices die or retire). He's simply not interested in doing the job the Constitution requires him to do, and like anyone else who refuses to do the work for which he's handed a paycheck, he deserves to get fired.

Republicams came to think of the Supreme Court as their personal plaything. For decades running, it had a Republican majority, generally by huge margins and once by as much as 8-1. They loved having Republican operatives in robes handing them rulings like Hobby Lobby and Citizens United. Now that the court is poised to have its first Democratic majority in over 40 years, they're freaking out. They're so used to the court being an extension of the GOP that the idea of no longer having its thumb on the scale for them is something they can't tolerate. But elections have consequences. If McCain is too corrupt to handle that, his seat should go to a more upright politician.

They piss on the Constitution as their cultists applaud like trained seals.

Deplorable.

No question whatsoever that McCain should be removed from office but that's for a lot more reasons than whatever you've mentioned.

I don't care what your political leanings are, Mr. McCain went through hell for this country , and deserves the seat he holds.

No one should be surprised.

Once a politician dips his toe into a swimming pool that was off limits, they'll keep going back as long as there's no blowback. The base of the GOP obviously doesn't give a shit about the Constitution, so long as they get to keep their conservative majority on the USSC.

They won't vote against their Republican Senators for blocking Obama's nomination to replace Scalia on the USSC. Quite the opposite: they'd support a primary challenger if they didn't. Blocking Hillary's USSC nominee's on the flimsiest of pretenses won't be that much of a stretch for them.

McCain should have been kicked out of office before his geriatric ass could have made it possible for the most UNQUALIFIED piece of shit in history to become president. Had a REAL conservative been nominated back in 07, Obama would be back in Kenya.

You afraid the commie train is going off the rails there comrade?
I'm afraid the nation is coming off the rails. For a country to function, you can't have a party of zealots who react to a president they don't like by reflexively opposing absolutely everything that president does, even to the point of decimating the Supreme Court.

Adolf Hitler went through hell for his country, too. When the war ended, he was lying in a hospital, blinded, thanks to suffering a gas attack during WWI. But that doesn't change my evaluation of his later political career. Same with McCain. His suffering as a soldier doesn't entitle him to a position in government. If he's unwilling to do his job, he shouldn't be filling the job.

No one "deserves" a Senate seat. McCain has joined his GOP colleagues in pissing on the Constitution, and no one who pisses on the Constitution deserves a Senate seat.

It's getting so bad that this scumbag doesn't even wait until he has material with which to articulate a pretext. I mean, you'd think he'd at least wait until there was an actual nominee and then invent some reason that particular nominee supposedly isn't fit for the role, and then just keep doing that. But we've moved past the point where any pretense of patriotism and duty is needed for Republican politicians. They can just come out and publicly take a shit on our national traditions and rest assured the kind of person they rely on to return them to office won't object. McCain doesn't even pretend this is anything but what it is: a stance by the GOP that a GOP majority in the Supreme Court must remain permanent, regardless of who the American People choose to give the nominating power.

Odd. Clinton corruption, well documented, doesn't bother you in the slightest.

You, perhaps, are a victim of Selective Outrage Syndrome, which has been known to affect partisan hacks who perceive that when they don't get their way 100% of the time. They seem to feel that every time they don't get what they want immediately, the country is doomed. They write angry posts where they call people names and demand that they be stripped of power immediately so that the country can be saved.

The good news is a) It's not usually fatal, b) the country isn't doomed every time they don't get what they demand, and c) they're darn amusing.

The cure is for one to get over one's self, which is relatively easy for a normal rational adult person.

It's an epidemic.

The subject is John McCain's failure to do his job, not Arkady.

He may have deserved it at one time. His words say his time is done.
If you say McCain is physically or mentally unfit, then we have something to talk about. But if you simply say that you don't like what he says, then that is another matter.

Unfortunately for ideologues like yourself who actually believe that there is still integrity in those hallowed places the reality is disappointing. The Supreme Court has been co-opted long ago by political operatives and is no longer a functioning Court that makes decisions discreetly and impartially based on law. It shouldn't matter who the president is or what party the president belongs and yet nowadays it seems to be the only thing that does matter. Amusingly you make my point by having a complete hissy fit and breakdown over the fact that we can't get an appointee right now. You demonstrate that political factionism does indeed matter in the choice thus reinforcing rather forcefully the point that I have made above.

I keep wondering if there is a tipping point where partisan politics does indeed go too far, and the backlash from the electorate restores some semblance of normalcy.

Then I consider the hyper partisanship that plagues this country, where compromise is considered a sign of weakness, and I realize that the GOP's shenanigans with the USSC nominees are a predictable outcome.

Politics in this country has become a no holds barred fight to the death, much to the detriment of the Republic.
