Retail sales are moving up. Yes much of it because of spending at the pump. Now you can look at it as "this is bad news because gas prices are up"... and that's somewhat legitimate. Except that it leaves of what the usual issue is with higher gas prices for the economy. Ususally it means that consumers give up spending on other products and thus shrink the economy.
Except here what we are seeing is that gas price rises are resulting in INCREASED SPENDING. What that tells us is that consumers are NOT cutting back on their discretionary spending to fill their tanks. Rather they are simply expanding their spending budgets.
And that means... and expanding economy.
Catastrophic news for the GOP.
