Realistically, the Democratic race is a 4 way race. Beto is done. Buttigieg is raising a lot of money but stuck at 7-8% in the polls. Right now the race is Biden/Warren/Harris/Bernie. Ima be straight up right now. If the election were held today and the Dem candidate was anyone but Biden among those 4,I would sit this one out. I cannot support Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders. Kamala Harris was my 2nd choice but she took herself off my list last month. Not sure there is anything she can do to get back on it.

Republicans threw away their purity test in 2016. Some resisted for awhile after the election and some hesitantly let go of it before the election, but Republicans and conservatives are mostly on board now. The pastors at the church I attend are solidly in Trump's corner. The folks who voted for Trump in 2016 are still on board and will be there in November next year. The only question is how many more he can pick up. I would add that the signal sent from Florida in November last year is a very good sign for Republicans.

My party has responded, apparently, by making it's purity test harder to pass and I can hardly bear watching it right now. Also, apparently, older white and maybe older black moderate/conservative Democrats who have voted in every election since they turned 18, like myself, don't pass the test. I don't just hang out in PJ. I hang out in a couple other mostly left-leaning sites. There the progressive left complains of Biden not exciting "the base". The progressive left has proclaimed itself to be "the base" and the rest of us should just get in line. I got news for 'em. They have a voice and a vote but they don't have the final say for the rest of us. There is a big generational divide in the Democratic electorate and the current signs point to the next election ripping it apart. We could see the return of "Reagan Democrats" as "Trump Democrats" especially if the economy keeps rolling along. Ima be straight up about another thing. Ima 'bout out of give a f**ks too.

There! I've said it. Sorry for the long post. I normally don't do this.

You're welcome Republicans. After the last election, I "got over it" quick. I ate my crow, congratulated the folks on the right and moved on. Won't be hard to do it again if need be.

Hang in there man. The political pendulum swings back eventually. These days I’m not really sure what will be waiting there when it does.

Thanks for the post.

@bdtex ... Traditional Democrat is gone. Traditional Democrat candidates are old and behind in the times. Biden/ Bernie/ Warren...........their day has passed and they can no longer capture the vote of the young people.

Unfortunately the new wave of Democrats is solidly Socialist. The promises of the old guard for free stuff rings hollow to young people. The old people have been there and failed. Young people are the "real" Socialists.

Here's a secret that Democrats don't want to know, and those who do know don't want anyone else to know. If Democrats would take a good hard look at Trump without all the hateful rhetoric ringing in their ears..........if they would actually look at him......... they would see that nothing he has done or wants to do is Traditional Republican. He wasn't originally a Republican. He was a Democrat. He once said that if he ran for president he would do it as a Republican, not because he is one, but because that's where he could win. And that was especially and exactly true in 2016 and will still be true in 2020.

Trump has pushed a lot of Democrat ideas out there .........and the hatred was so great that Democrats dropped those ideas and went to some other side just to distance themselves from Trump. Democrats wanted a wall.......until Trump wanted one then they had to go against that wall leading to crime, violence, and drugs. Democrats shot themselves in the foot over their Trump hate. Many Republicans did the same (Paul Ryan comes to mind as does John McCain and Comey).

Those Americans who had the ability to look past party lines realized that Trump, a flawed man of many gaffes.........loves America..........has some good business sense..........and actually wants to make the country better. AND he has done just that even with many people of both parties working against him every step of the way.

Take another look. Set aside the Trump hate for just a minute and ignore the flawed man. Look at what he has done. Look at our economy. Look at everything else. He is neither Republican nor Democrat. He's an American who loves his country. What more could we ask for? Certainly no one in the Democrat Clown Car is his equal. If Biden (for example) were Trump's equal, then the almost 50 years Biden has been in our government would have more to show for itself than it does.

Take another look at Trump.

Tell me what I said that you disagree with. Anybody But Trump ain't good enough for me.
That's cool, everyone should vote his conscience. I just noted your comment on what you describe as the Democratic Party's purity test in the midst of your explanation of your own purity test, that's all. It struck me funny.

BTW, I have similar conversations with my daughter, who first got interested in politics during Obama's first run. She says similar things to what you said people say about Biden - that he's not 'exciting.' I've explained to her that a candidate like Obama comes along perhaps once in one's lifetime and that for the most part politics isn't 'exciting,' it's the grind of running the country and maintaining relationships with other countries. We voters have a responsibility to select the best candidates we can from local elections to national ones. But who we each define as "best candidate" is ours alone to decide. I don't presume to argue you into or out of anyone you plan to vote for.

It's better than the lockstep most Democrats have with their party. ;)
Do we? Seems there's a lot of discussion about dissention in the ranks of the Democratic Party. That doesn't jibe with your odd belief in Democrats being in lock step.

Great post. I feel your pain about the party making the wrong turn. The Republican party has always been a major disappointment to me. That said, the turn hard left by Democrats has been profound. We've seen voices of reason like Howard Schultz try to sound the alarm to no avail.

Sadly, it appears AOC is becoming a caricature for the party, with the help of the media. Nancy Pelosi is now the voice of reason.

Biden clearly has trouble drawing crowds. That's problematic. There is at least one Democrat here who has said crowd size doesn't matter. I beg to differ.

It's so hard to tell about support for Trump. I have a feeling it's underrated and under-reported.

No One in my party brings it like Trump did in 2016.

The only way MY party of leftists gets that same result? When someone in my party has the guts to skewer the sacred cows of Pelosi-Clinton & Obama. etcetera etcetera

Most won't because they fear for their life.

So I wrote that last night and mentioned black Democrats and wake up to this article about "Justice Democrats", who apparently are aligned with AOC, primarying incumbent black Democrats in the House and the Congressional Black Caucus being highly pissed about it. So in addition to the generational divide pulling in opposite directions, there appears to be a divide in the Democratic coalition along other lines. Some folks apparently wanna take Swalwell's torch and burn shiite up. Wait 'til they see who Trump nominates to fill the SCOTUS seat left vacant by RBG in his second term.
