Obama will push "smart gun" technology

The Obama/Jarrett administration is expected to announce the findings of a research project on requiring so-called "smart guns" for future federal agency firearms purchases. Smart guns are a ridiculous idea, of course, but I like the idea that every armed federal agent may be required to replace their existing firearm with a potentially defective, untested "smart gun" . They're already running from the idea (can't blame them):

“Police officers in general, federal officers in particular, shouldn’t be asked to be the guinea pigs in evaluating a firearm that nobody’s even seen yet,” said James Pasco, executive director of the Fraternal Order of Police. “We have some very, very serious questions.”

My proposal:

1. I think the very first users of "smart guns" should be Obama's and Jarrett's own Secret Service security/protection details, followed immediately by the White House police.

2. All remaining federal agencies should have their guns replaced with "smart guns", including the TSA, FBI, DEA, ATF, Border Patrol, etc.

3. All state and local law enforcement agencies should have their guns replaced with "smart guns", including SWAT team weapons.

4. All private armed protection contractors, such as those employed by gun-hating Hollywood celebrities, should have their guns replaced with "smart guns".

5. Once every federal, state and local law enforcement officer, and all private security contractors, are armed with a "smart gun", and they have proven equally reliable to existing firearms, they should be made available to the public, as an option.

Sound good?

It's backdoor gun control. Some states, New Jersey is an example, already bans all other guns the minute smart guns become available.

are you suggesting that as soon as "smart guns" become available all "dumb guns" will be confiscated? o_O

I think he's suggesting that deranged, authoritarian, busybody, control freak lefty needs to shut the frig up and leave us all the heck alone.

You people are sick.

More or less. New Jersey has a ridiculous law that starts a three year clock when the first "smart gun" is sold to the public. Once the three years are up, ALL guns sold in the state must be of the "smart variety". It's a very short step from there for some anti-civil rights activist politician to start confiscating the "non-compliant" guns.

Do you have a link to any kind of documentation for that law?

This is about tracking and disabling guns just like they do cell phones. They have actually said so. If the 'good' guys can do it so can the 'bad' guys.
That's definitely part of the program. "Smart guns" will inherently have chip technology that will enable them to be monitored, like any other device with a chip. Once guns go from being mechanical devices to being electronic devices, tracking them becomes a thousand times simpler.

All this will do is create a massive black market for un-chipped firearms.

Don't forget the remote disabling component.

@marvin martian

Most of these technologies rely on jewelry which I don't wear or fingerprints which do change for people who work (or exercise) something liberals don't seem worry much about. They excessively like jewelry and don't have much trouble giving good prints when booked.

I have seen a lot of different "smart" gun technologies....none of which included tracking or remote disabling capability. The ones that used a shortrange transmit/receive ability were about wearing some kind of identifier. The range of it was no more than a few feet.

Another was equipped with a biometric capability so that it could tell by finger print if it was your gun....no transmit ability at all

Agreed, it's all about making guns so expensive people can't afford them. They're not fooling anybody.

Try opening your eyes once in a while, it may help:

That's how Hitler done it, just register your gun and 6 months later came for all guns, give them up now or they'd kill the family.
