Degs: You do realize that the nation existed for two centuries without any FEMA at all, right?

So, here is what I think is crazy in all of this.... the people who say.."forget you government - you aren't giving me shelter, you aren't protecting my belongings, I am going to be responsible for myself and my family and my property and stay in there" - despite very very very difficult conditions - possibly unsafe conditions are looked on as the loons.

When what they are doing is what EVERYONE should be doing - taking care of their own darn business. Taking care of their own needs seeing to their own property.....

And, here we have big government who is supposed to help us all - you know, rather than stay in your washed up home protecting the little you have left, come to us - we will help you. And they don't even have the mettle to stick it out in what by all accounts was an average to mild noreaster.

I mean really - this is exactly what happens when you count on others to bail you out. They don't. They aren't there when you need it. And, it is scary to me how every year that goes by we try to convince more and more people to not depend on themselves and their know how and their abilities to get things done.. but instead depend on someone else to do for us.

I really just don't get it. It is the antithesis of the American Spirit as far as I am concerned.

Ok... so pictures depicting other people helping each other, and fireman and others doing their jobs? I think firefighters are awesome. Have some great friends who are firefighters.. I do hope that should the day arrive that I need them, that they will come. Although we are about 12 minutes as break neck speed from the closest fire house... so I doubt it will do much good... but its nice to know that they are there...

But, doesn't change the fact that I should have fire extinguishers and a sprinkler system in my home and keep matches and flammables properly secured. Its nice that they are there - but I am first and foremost in charge of protecting my family and my property.

As a (formerly) independent agency, maybe. But the Federal government has been involved in disaster relief since 1803. FEMA simply makes things more efficient.

All that the left could do was complain about Bush and FEMA and the lack of help during Katrina, but now since it is Obama's Adminstration you are making excuses for FEMA's lack of help. So no it is ok for FEMA employess to stop helping people because of a snow fall on top of a hurricane that devastated the NY/NJ areas, your hipocracy abounds. There are your facts.

It's no surprise that you like unon thugs. Especially after they refused to permit a southern power company to come in and help with restoring power to NJ communities because they were not unionized. Typical lefts response.

It also existed without computers... yes and?

With computers you can do ultrasounds and detect disease much sooner.

With FEMA we recover from natural disasters much faster and with less loss of life (we used to have cholera and dysentery sweep through after disasters)

    Your point?

    Um under GWB
    • There was no Proactive Disaster declaration
    • there was no proactive activation of the National Guard
    • There was no pre-positioning of field hospitals
    • The overall coordination effort came AFTER THE FACT
    • GWB was reading My Pet Goat or listing to some country western wail about how life was like a guitar run over by a pickup truck - or some such nonsense

EVERY major effort like this will have problems. But you cannot point to SYSTEMIC ones in this response. The GWB response was s clusterfvck of incompetent governance of epic proportions. And people died as a result of it.

And that's not the case. The FEMA OFFICE iis NOT THE SAME as a FEMA RELIEF CENTER

and you pretending it is, is the dishonesty here.

Yep, what is it now a week without power, food and water? If FEMA gets any faster everyone will be dead by the time they get to the NY/NJ areas.

You can't explain it away or make excuses for it, this one is Obama's cluster fuvk. At first FEMA didn't even waht to come into the area, They wanted everyone to send an e-mail, more of Obie's brilance.

No the dishonesty here is FEMA saying,"We're here to help". What they did say is "except in the case of a snowstorm", in which case you are on you own AGAIN.
