Does anyone recognize either one of these two savages? If so, please do the world a favor and turn them in! The NYPD is asking anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the two young women who are seen in surveillance photos released by authorities to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.

I don't understand... where is this awful hostility coming from? We were taught to offer our seats to elderly people voluntarily. That's how I raised MY kids, and they, in turn, raised THEIRS. What is wrong with society today? Why do so many parents fail to teach their kids to be decent human beings?

I hope they catch these two felon's. Yep it's a felony to attack a senior in some states...hopefully in NY too.

I hope they're caught and punished, assuming the facts are being accurately reported (tough to say with something from a tabloid outlet like that).

That said, it's also worth taking a step back and remembering what great progress we've made. NYC used to be a hell-hole. Towards the end of the Reagan/Bush socioeconomic catastrophe, the murder rate was a staggering 31 per 100,000, and now it's just 2.2 per 100,000. And there have been huge declines in other kinds of violent crime as well. And it's not just New York. Although there are still some horrible cities out there (like St. Louis, Detroit, and New Orleans), overall our urban cores have been transformed from post-apocalyptic nightmares to desirable destinations. We still have a way to go before crime is as uncommon as in the big cities of Europe, but we've been moving faster in the right direction than just about anyone thought was possible.

Using the standard of @Bugsy McGurk, if we see these sub-humans, it would be OK to assault them, right? Or at least they would share the blame, right?

Indeed, Rudy Guiliani did a great job dealing with crime in NYC, yes?

He seems to have done a fairly typical job at dealing with crime, relative to other big-city mayors of the same era. Crime was plunging nationally and other than a few really dysfunctional cities, most urban areas went along for the ride. If you could benchmark Guiliani's numbers against those of most big cities over the era, we could have a better idea if he did better or worse than normal.

Arkady is unbelievable. There's seemingly NOTHING he doesn't attempt to use as a smokescreen to deflect from the problems this administration has wrought.
As a reminder, violent crime rates have fallen under this administration, and murder rates are now very close to the lowest they've been in our entire history. Is that what the administration has wrought?

Very interesting.... why do you suppose the murder rate increased so dramatically in these big liberal cities?

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-34120247

Bush's fault?
The last major crime stats release by the FBI came out last September:

https://www.fbi.gov/news/stories/2015/september/latest-crime-stats-released/latest-crime-stats-released

At the time, they were reporting violent crime being down, again. Here's what they reported for the five-year trend:

Note, that shows a decrease even in the estimated number of offenses, despite a growing population.

Here's the most recent data for cities:

https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2014/crime-in-the-u.s.-2014/tables/table-16

Here's the same data for Bush's last year:

https://www2.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2008/data/table_16.html

As you can see, the murder rate for all cities fell from 6.4 to 5.2, and for cities of over 250,000 people it fell from 11.5 to 9.3. For the biggest cities, it fell from 10.5 to 7.4. So, overall, there's been a very sizable improvement in the conditions of cities since Obama took office. Did this strong trend of improvement reverse in 2015, or is that just a false impression that comes from focusing on the cities that happened to have a bad year? We'll need to wait until September, when the UCR update comes out, to say for sure. If it is a real trend though, it'll be interesting to see what the criminologists make of it. Your link offers up the theory that increasing gun ownership or dereliction of duty by police could be factors. Perhaps.

Medical treatment has always been advancing. Yet murder rates have often risen. For example, medical treatments advanced greatly between the end of Johnson's presidency and the start of Clinton's, yet murder rates went from 6.9 to 9.5 in that time.

Also, recall, it's not just murder rates that are down on Obama's watch. Property crime rates are down, forcible rape rates are down, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, and vehicle theft rates are all down, too. Presumably that's not because of advanced medical treatment for stolen vehicles. You'll need to work on your theories to try to explain away the Obama-era trends:

Nothing to do with Obama Arky - We have tough county sheriffs like Joe Arpaio, true 'Mericans like the Bundy family and militia groups like Oath Keepers to thank.

So, presumably, what IS the reason that crime rates are going down? What, specifically, did Obama DO to make it so? Wave his magic wand?

Or maybe... could the incarceration rate have something to do with it? You know.. since privatizing prisons gave 'justice' an incentive to throw as many people in the slammer as possible?

Every man (or woman) NOT jailed is revenue lost...

And never mind that crime rates are worse in conservative regions than liberal ones:

http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/murder-rates-nationally-and-state

Murder rates in the liberal Northeast are 3.3, versus 5.5 in the South. Arpaio's Arizona comes in at 4.7, which is above the national rate.
