Hamas admits kidnapping Israeli teens

A SENIOR Hamas leader has said the group carried out the kidnapping and killing of three Israeli teens in the West Bank in June - the first time anyone from the Islamic militant group has said it was behind an attack that helped spark the current war in the Gaza Strip.

SALEH Arouri told a conference in Turkey on Wednesday that Hamas's military wing, the al-Qassam Brigades, carried out what he described as a "heroic operation" with the broader goal of sparking a new Palestinian uprising.

"It was an operation by your brothers from the al-Qassam Brigades," he said, saying Hamas hoped to exchange the youths for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.

Hamas has repeatedly praised the kidnappings, but Arouri, the group's exiled West Bank leader, is the first member to claim responsibility.

Israel has accused Hamas of orchestrating the kidnappings and identified two operatives as the chief suspects. The two men remain on the loose.

The kidnappings on June 12, along with the discovery of the youths' bodies two weeks later, sparked a broad Israeli crackdown on Hamas members throughout the West Bank.

Hamas responded with heavy rocket fire out of the Gaza Strip, leading Israel to launch an aerial and ground invasion of the territory.

More than 2000 Palestinians, most of them civilians, have been killed in the fighting, according to Palestinian and UN officials, while 67 Israelis have also been killed, all but three of them soldiers.

An Egyptian effort to mediate a cease-fire collapsed this week, leading to a resumption of heavy fighting.

Arouri told the conference that Hamas "did not have the intention at this time to ignite a large battle".

He said Hamas did not believe Israel wanted a war either.

"But Allah has chosen and willed that a large battle would be ignited", he said.

Arouri is one of Hamas's most senior figures.

He founded Hamas' military wing in the West Bank two decades ago and now commands the group's operations in the area from exile in Turkey.

He was deported several years ago in a deal that freed him from Israeli prison.

Yep, they are easy to spot. Poor PJ Jihadi's... ;)
A bunch sprouted like mushrooms after 9/11 in the other forum. Once they realized they weren't recruiting anyone to their cause, they slithered back under the rocks...running from the ridicule heaped upon them.

The PJ group keeps trying, albeit definitely not on their A game. They're easily spotted and discounted.

They try to be sly about their "message", but even Forest Gump can see through their tactics.

I remember that. They were pretty obvious back then too.

The e-Jihadi's dedicated to PJ are pretty amateurish.

Who cares? They were Israeli kids. They were probably going to grow up and manipulate the world through the "Jew owned banks", destroy their sons' penises, fake another moonlanding, spread more lies about some sweet, gentle, misaligned martyred political leader from the forties, film fake beheadings, and plant Zionist domination messages in the scripts of children's programming.

I know of one Muslim who posts on here (sacoooo) and haven't seen any posts by him supporting jihad, Hamas, ISIS, etc.
Funny, I know of more than one white folks who post on here and haven't seen any posts by them supporting "whites only" restaurants, blacks being sent to the back of the bus, "seperate but equal schools", the burning of crosses in other people's yards, etc. but I still read rant after rant about the "racism" of posters on here........

If it is perfectly acceptable for SOME to just assign a negative label such as "racist" to others for merely daring to harbor a differing opinion on some issues than those on the left, why would it not be equally as acceptable for OTHERS to just assign a negative label such as "jihadist" to people for merely daring to harbor a differing opinion on some issues than those on the right?

Seems to me as if you are protesting some people daring to do exactly the same thing that you accept others doing, perhaps something you even do yourself.

Actually there were a number of them. I'm not going to run around looking for them but a different group had already claimed responsibility and that did get posted here.

Some here have sarcastically commented that the one guy saying that Hamas did it was an Israeli plant. That was supposed to be pure sarcasm, but it could just as well be true. It's amazing what money or threats will buy.

I didn't see any. If you could provide a link, it would be helpful.
As I said, I don't have time to find the original links but this article from today will explain it.

There has been a lot of buzz in the Israeli media this week. The claim has been that Binyamin Netanyahu was “right all along” to bomb the civilians of Gaza. Why? Because Hamas was indeed behind the kidnappings of those three Israeli teens in the West Bank: Eyal Yifrach, 19, Gilad Shaar, 16, and Naftali Fraenkel, 16. At least that’s what’s being said…

Now bear in mind that the West Bank is not Hamas turf, it is Fatah: the same Fatah that Hamas went to war with in the Battle of Gaza. But nevertheless, Netanyahu claimed it was Hamas’s fault.

?
Many who know the region and politics of the groups involved said that this was out of character for Hamas who we would have expected to have used the teens for a prisoner “swap”. As well, for weeks – months even – Hamas not only never claimed this was their handiwork, they denied it outright. Had they been responsible, one would have expected Hamas to have taken credit right from the start, as they so often do.

But one group that did claim to be in the same neck of the woods was ISIS, and even though it received relatively little press internationally, they were the first to claim responsibility for the kidnapping and murder of these boys. A pamphlet issued by the so-called “Islamist State in Iraq and Syria” or “ISIS” and circulated around Hebron, claimed responsibility.

While Netanyahu fixated on Hamas, however, ISIS has been building in Iraq and even still in the West Bank, whereas Hamas has claimed that they will fight ISIS if they try to enter the Gaza Strip and lay down roots there.

Instead of paying a bit of attention to this, Israeli hawks have been hyper-fixating on a YouTube video of Saleh Arouri, an exiled Hamas official, who told a conference in Turkey on Wednesday that Hamas’ military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, carried out what he described as a “heroic operation”. But as an organization and party, Gazan Hamas, and their Qatar-based leader Khaled Meshaal, has still rejected this claim over and over again. Western media has ignored that pesky fact.

“It was an operation by your brothers from the al-Qassam Brigades,” Arouri said, in spite of the fact that no one else in Hamas agreed with this claim.

In November 2013 three ISIS agents were killed in the Hebron area. The pamphlet released by ISIS right after this kidnapping in the West Bank said that the three kidnapped boys were in direct retaliation for the killed ISIS members. In fact, one of those ISIS members who was killed, Mohamed Nairukh, had been expelled from the ranks of Hamas’ Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades due to his radical religious beliefs and objection to Hamas’ political involvement. This would seem to back up Hamas’ claims that they will fight any ISIS encroachment into the Gaza Strip.

While the ISIS cells in the West Bank likely are not directly emanating from the organizational structure in Iraq and Syria, they are instead probably an existing cell which has adopted the ISIS name, marching under its banner. Something similar happened two years ago, when Palestinian groups carried out operations under the banner of the Nusra Front, which had risen to prominence in the Syrian civil war as the leader of the rebels. Similar groups operating in Sinai and Gaza such as Ansar Beit al-Maqdas have claimed affiliation to Al-Qaeda, but not been under any such direct leadership.

Arouri has long been recognized as part of the dying hardline camp of Hamas. It is not outside of the realm of reason to suggest that now, late in the game, he is trying to attribute credit for this kidnapping for the group which has been increasingly moving away from policies that he favors.

Either way, the fact is that it was this ISIS cell which claimed responsibility. Whether ISIS’s claim is true or not, what we know for sure is that it is only now, very late in the game that Arouri apparently tried to rake in credit for an attack that the mainstream organization of Hamas has affirmed they had nothing to do with.

It would seem that now would be a good time for reconciliation, not just lasting, permanent reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah (without interference), but also between the Palestinian Unity government and Israel. Whatever each side thinks about one another, there is a much worse enemy – by all standards – who has infiltrated the region now.

ISIS in the West Bank, Not Hamas, First Claimed Responsibility For Kidnapping Those Israeli Teens

The abduction of three Israeli teens a few months ago provoked justified outrage and sympathy throughout the world. Innocent of any crime, the three teens are a symbol of the tragedy of human conflict.

Yet the Israeli government supposed indignation over the kidnappings was an utter fraud. Israel, immediately after the kidnapping, instituted a gag order on Israel journalists preventing key facts about the teen’s disappearance. For example, “Israel’s Shin Bet security service barred reporters from telling the public thatgunshots were heardon the furtive emergency call made by one of the kidnapped teenagers.” (1) According to Haaretz, “Israel has lifted the gag order on the emergency call…in which shots can be heard.”(2) As the Times of Israel reports, the call that was released was not the full portion, as the Israeli government decided to withhold a portion of the call. (3)

What was missing in the partial recording? Ynet newspaper published a full version of the call in which, after the gunshots are heard, one of the kidnappers yelled out “we got three!” As the International Business Times reports, “After a burst of gunfire” the “killers of the three Israeli teenagers” can be heard yelling “We got three” and “celebrating.”(4)

The Jerusalem Post also reported on this matter, stating that the recording “which was previously under a gag order” shows that the kidnappers, after firing the shots sang and “celebrated.” Oddly, as the paper writes, that “From the moment they first learned of the kidnappings the security forces have had a working assessment that the teenagers were murdered soon after being kidnapped.” However, because of the gag order, officials were able to say in public that “they believed the youths were still alive.” The car they found, in which the Israeli’s were abducted, was found with shell casings, DNA, blood and was burned out. While Prime Minster Netanyahu pretended that the Israeli teens might still be alive, it is obvious that he knew otherwise. The gag order was prevented from anyone else knowing. The death of the Palestinian teen shortly after likely would never have happened if the government was forthcoming from the beginning. This is a particularly disgusting act to do the child’s parents, one who stated “We believed they would be found alive.”(5)

Today a Hamas leader announced what all of us already knew. Namely, that a militant wing of Hamas (The Qassam Brigade) carried out the kidnappings. Despite Mr. Mikes vicious vitriol and statements to the contrary, this does not in any way constitute Hamas perpetrating the kidnapping. Quite the contrary, we know that Hamas’s top leaders were privately angry about the kidnapping and didn’t sanction it.

For example, Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfield(who oversaw the investigation) told the BBC, “that the three men who kidnapped the Israeli teens were Hamas affiliated but not operating under Hamas Leadership.” Additionally, according to Rosenfield the group was definitely a “lone cell.” Rosefnield told the BBC that if Hamas orchestrated the kidnappings then Israel would have known about it before hand. The word of a Hamas “spokesman” or an Israeli spokesman? We know those like Mr. Mike would accept the Israeli’s word over a Hamas members word any day of the week.(6)

According to Hugh Lovatt, Israeli coordinator at the Europe Council of foreign relations, “Given the timing I would be very suspicious about his claim. I still don't believe Hamas as an organization and its upper echelons sanctioned the kidnappings – something that Israeli intelligence also believes.”(7) Leading Israeli scholar, and Hamas critic Sholomi Eldar, said in the New York Times of the group who carried out the kidnappings, “I’m sure they didn’t get any green light from the leadership of Hamas, they just thought it was the right time to act.” He added, “I can’t say they are officially part of the Hamas military wing.” Eldar, is a fierce critic of Hamas and author of a 2011 book that is highly critical of the group(8)

On July 1st, after Netanyahu already claimed he had no doubt Hamas leadership was responsible, thus justifying the incursions into Gaza, members of his own intelligence unit disputed those claims. According to the Times, “The Israeli authorities acknowledge that the Mr. Qawasmeh and Mr. Aisha might have been a rogue cell operating without orders from the Hamas leadership.” The Hebron clam has been “known to buck Hamas leadership.” According to another Israeli official, “we are still trying to understand if they worked alone or had connections abroad or in Gaza.” According to PLO executive, “Hamas has never been self-effacing. Whenever they carried out an operation, they always declared it and took responsibility.”(9)

So while Netanyahu was claiming he knew for sure Hamas was responsible he was lying, as his own security forces acknowledge they didn’t.

Thus, in the article cited here today, the head of Hamas in Qatar denies Hama’s planning of the attack. The Hamas official in Turkey simply said that the attack wasn’t a Jewish conspiracy, as any sane person knew, and that it was carried out by the Qassam brigades. Whether or not Hamas sanctioned it is another issue, devoid of evidence and is disputed by Israeli’s own intelligence services. (10) Hamas was in fact on the ropes during this time, barely able to pay salaries, a prime motivation for their unity agreement with Abbas. The idea that they would form a unity government and effectively undermine it by carrying out a kidnapping is ludicrous.

It should be noted that weeks before the kidnappings two Palestinian children were shot dead on camera by Israeli soldiers in occupied territories. Here the perpetrators were videotaped. However, since they are Palestinian nobody cares and the western press in all the coverage relating to this matter has found this an irrelevant fact.
