Republicans love socialism

Renee

Governor
They scream about socialism but support the lobbyists who subsidize farmers . So socialistic....these mega farmers , big business farmers get subsidies from the gov. They aren't like the rest of us , when business fails were out of luck. Why don't they give fishermen huge subsidies? They don't have good lobbyists. So it is ok for corporate farmers to get subsidized and assured insurance (socialism) but not the good socialism like food stamps which help the poor

It's not socialism if it helps the folks who finance your campaign. Probably more than 90% of the Republican base has no idea what socialism even is. They just know that they've been told that it is a dirty word.

We should maybe hold our fire on this one. If I'm not mistaken, the new on-the-table ag. bill is headed in the right direction.

Ms. Renee,

That is not socialism. Subsidies of business is to maintain the market prices and used as a hedge against foreign competition. It is in the interest of the US economy for businesses not to fail and keep hiring workers and pay taxes.

Food stamps, on the other hand, is a socialist handout.

You're technically correct. What the Republican Party engages in with their economic redistribution plans is not socialism. It is classic fascism.

Socialism is investment in stuff redkooks don't like. Patriotism is investment in things redkooks DO like.

Oh..then why don't they do with fishermen? Why don't they do with every business? Agracorporarions are the recipients socialist handouts .

Vetoing it JUST because it cuts SNAP, is old school (D)emocratism. It's wiser to also consider what it does on the other side of the equation.

I disagree. I think it's time for the Democrats to stop drifting rightward on every issue. I don't doubt that there's some pork that could be cut from the subsidies, but we don't need to cut the SNAP program. Cut the pork. I'm fine with that part.

Ms. Renee,

Fishermen and other businesses are given various levels of subsidies to comply with government mandates in order to control market prices. Again, they are not socialist handouts, they are compensation for the taking of property, i.e., forcing them to lay their lands fallow to control market prices and to preserve environementally sensitive areas.

Mr. Fair,

What does your irrational and unsupported non sequitur have to do with this discussion?
Irrational?.....Considering the context, I'm not seein' it. Unsupported?....not any more!

I gotta confess that at least at this point, I'm pretty much talking out my ass. but I THINK I just heard that it made not just marginal, but significant cuts on the non-SNAP side.

Yes. What is your point? It isn't as if Germany is the only nation to have ever practiced fascism.
My point is that whatever the Nazis WERE, they called themselves national socialists. I wasn't around back then, but I don't think the Nazis self-described as fascists....even as they obviously WERE fascists?

That isn't so uncommon. Many outright dictatorships have named their nations such things as "Democratic Republic of Blah Blah".

Fascism is basically just socialism for the aristocracy, rather than for the masses.
