They obviously don't realize just how weary the 75% of Americans who don't support the Tea Party have become of their incessant, crybaby whining.

Hopefully, they'll receive a lesson in the mid-term elections. Citizens need to make certain that their papers are all in order, so that the Tea Party leaders can't prevent them from voting.

Va might be a sweep. Mcauliffe is ahead 12 points and most of the repubs are sick of the party.

It is a conundrum for the GOP. They know that they can't win without their fringe right-wing base, and yet it becomes more obvious with each passing day that they can't win with them either.

True, N.S. I just recently read a great article suggesting another pertinent thing dems need to do -- and it is so spot on.. re: controlling the message more instead of being defensive toward the repubs.. take the message to them directly.. etc.

I don’t often give Republicans much credit for anything, but one thing they do very well is produce a straight-forward and concise message to the public. Now I’m not saying what they say is true — more often than not it’s filled with blatant lies — I’m just saying they do a masterful job at getting their “message” out there and controlling the argument.
On the flip side, this is something Democrats and liberals are often terrible at.
Granted, this is partly a fundamental problem. Both the strength and weakness of the GOP is predicated upon the fact that their voters are easily manipulated and often don’t question what it is they’re told. This combination is maddening for people who like to use those things we call “facts” when discussing the issues going on in this country, but for Republican politicians it’s the perfect set up to ensure that your constituents are all repeating the same talking points in each and every one of these discussions.
Yet, when it comes to liberals, our strength and weakness is also the same thing. While our strength is that we’re diverse in our ideology, our weakness is also that diversity can at times dilute our message. This often weakens our argument by making us appear fragmented and divided.
And the one thing liberals often never do is control the message. Be it the healthcare law, the debt ceiling or the government shutdown—Republicans almost always seem to be the ones controlling the message.
snip ----
But the issue of allowing Republicans to control the message doesn’t just stop at those two issues. It’s a problem that’s plagued liberals for years.
Even now, with the Healthcare.gov site issues, it’s rare I see Democrats calling out the blatant hypocrisy by Republicans to act “appalled” at these “incompetent” issues when we experienced worse issues when Bush’s Medicare Part D rolled out in 2006.

Rand Paul has been giving speeches using lines he lifted from Wikipedia..:rolleyes:
~~~~~
Did Rand Paul plagiarize his speech from Wikipedia? It sure seems that way, as Rachel Maddow pointed out on Monday.
In a speech given in support of Virginia gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli, Paul referenced the 90s science fiction movie Gattaca. The Kentucky senator used the plot of Gattaca--a dystopian world in which eugenics is widely practiced-- to attack pro-choice advocates. Even more bizarre than his choice of metaphor are the similarities between Paul's speech and the Wikipedia page for Gattaca.
As Maddow points out, Paul said:
"In the movie Gattaca, in the not-too-distant future, eugenics is common and DNA plays a primary role in determining your social class."
RE: Messaging
You're right. Republicans are the kings of bumper sticker wisdom. For example, they have been recently pounding on the statement that "Obama promised we could keep our insurance if we liked it".
The President did say that when he was running for the presidency in 2008. That was his vision for PPACA. In reality, Obama didn't get exactly what he wanted from the PPACA legislation. Otherwise, we'd have a "public option" for the uninsured, rather than leaving them to fend for themselves in the exchanges.
Congress writes the laws and PPACA was the best compromise that they could deliver. That the final version of the PPACA doesn't match the President's vision exactly does not render the President a liar for expressing his intentions for the law when he was campaigning.
Besides, the PPACA actually does allow people to keep substandard policies that were grandfathered in. It is the private insurers who have elected to drop these policies. PPACA doesn't require them to.
The problem with messaging to the Republican base is quite simply that most of them are as dumb as a rock. Therefore, their eyes glaze over when you attempt to explain something complicated to them. They need to be spoon-fed very simple little one line messages.
