Schumer says Dems will filibuster Gorsuch nomination

I expect Schumer will have 100% support from his fellow Dems, and the progs here on PJ.

Other than the fact that he's white, can someone tell me why Dems oppose Gorsuch?

This is a moronic tactic while the GOP struggles with health care. This is where they could demonstrate comity and bipartisanship but Chuck wants to steal the spotlight abd make his party look worse.
He's insane.

Gorsuch is another Scalia clone who will elevate the rights of corporations over those of natural citizens; he deserves the same treatment from Democrats that Republicans gave to Merrick Garland, at least.

So, in other words, Gorsuch hasn't been a good liberal.

They are wasting a filibuster. But hey............. Democrats are just swirling down the stupid bowl these days.

When a staunch Conservative is put in there to replace Old Dead Ruth......... I could understand a filibuster. But now it will just be seen as a joke.

His support for corporations seems hypocritical to me:

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2017/03/18/neil-gorsuch-is-no-originalist-the-founders-loathed-corporate-power-he-favors-it.html

"Stop calling Judge Neil Gorsuch an originalist.

"His opinions would make the Founding Fathers turn over in their graves.

"The Supreme Court nominee’s record on cases pitting individual against corporate rights tilts consistently in favor of corporations over many years. And while many conservative ‘originalists’ don’t like to talk about it, the Founders hated corporations and sharply limited their power."

Sorry but I don't believe that for a minute. But let's pretend that the statement about the founders, most of whom were successful businessmen in England, hating corporations is of no relevance.

My question is, were Gosuch's rulings in line with the constitution? A judge's job is not to promote social justice or be a champion of the "little guy". Their job is to interpret law in light of the constitution. If you have proof that Gorsuch is an activist, then let's see it.

Most of their experience was with the British East India Company which played a starring role in the Boston Tea Party:

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2017/03/18/neil-gorsuch-is-no-originalist-the-founders-loathed-corporate-power-he-favors-it.html

"On the contrary, the largest corporation of the time – the British East India Company – was derided as an imperium in imperio, a state within a state, and deliberately not replicated in the new republic. Indeed, the Boston Tea Party was as much a protest against the company as it was against the Crown."

There's no mention of the word "corporation" in the US Constitution. How does an "originalist" like Scalia or Gorsuch justify decisions like Hobby Lobby or Citizens United that privilege corporations over natural citizens?

Could you just for a second visualize the meltdown with a 7 -2 young in late forties conservative court?
