“This assessment is based on intelligence, the weapons used, the level of expertise needed to execute the operation, recent similar Iranian attacks on shipping, and the fact that no proxy group operating in the area has the resources and proficiency to act with such a high-degree of sophistication,” Pompeo told the press in a statement.

“The United States will defend its forces, interests, and stand with our partners and allies to safeguard global commerce and regional stability. I am afraid trump will grandstand some sort of military action against a weak country before the election if he believes it will help him win. I do not say this lightly. I just believe Trump cares more about winning, at all costs, than he does about what price others might have to pay, like our soldiers, their families and even the people of whatever country we strike out against when it is not necessary or the best path forward.
