No, that kind of black and white thinking is simple minded. I suppose that's why the governors went with it. The governor in my state isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. :)
No. Unless the U.S. were to go back in time and develop a stringent screening, testing, and contact tracing program in place since January, there was no alternative to mandating social distancing or watching millions die. That’s not black and white thinking, it’s black and white reality.

There is a difference between social distancing and closing down a state's economy. I know you hate capitalism, but this is the system we have, and it's dependent on people having jobs and running businesses.

And it is dependent on people doing in person work in contact with the public because it has stifled manufacturing innovation and left the U.S. with a service economy. And we are at this pass because capitalism and its local political expression prevented the U.S. from taking the preventative measures needed to avoid a shutdown as the only alternative to the deaths of millions of Americans.

So how do you explain Iran? Last I checked, they aren't a capitalist country. How do you explain the outbreak there?

I know you think capitalism is the tool of the devil, but believe it or not, there are countries where the people interact with each other that aren't necessarily capitalist in nature.

Yes, of course Iran is a capitalist country.

There are also socialist countries, like N. Korea and Cuba. But they have weathered this (so far) without a public health crisis and without shutting down the economy.

Do you feel lucky, Punk

What economy??? LOL.

Just keep your fake communist ass quiet and let the brown people you hate die for you in those shitholes, while you sit on your white ass in wealthy, safe, capitalist America.

“Wealthy, safe, capitalist America”? Have you been in a coma for the last 20 years?

No, actually I've been working, making a lot of money, and living a happy, safe existence. Sounds like you weren't able to achieve much of anything, hence your fake commie blather.

You were working AND making a lot of money? That doesn’t sound very capitalistic ... shouldn’t you have been doing one or the other?

As I said, fake commies like you don't understand how our system works; you just lay around stealing from the people who work, while the brown people you despise starve and die in the shitholes you're too scared to live in.

Same with Sweden, which is also a capitalist country. They didn't shut down their economy and they are weathering the crisis just fine.

And Iran being a capitalist country is a load of BS, but there is no way of telling you that.

American capitalism (such as it is) would not be possible if capitalism in places like Mexico, Honduras, and Yemen weren’t what they are. The super-exploitation of “brown people” (as you put it) in the semicolonial countries is the condition for the super-profits that allow for the existence of a considerable middle class layer in the U.S.

Well, I had to look up Sweden’s approach, looks like they may be doing the best with the hand they were dealt, and the approach makes sense to me, but it’s not exactly smooth sailing. 475 deaths in a population of 10 million and a high rate of elderly infected?

Iran has private ownership of the means of production, investment-driven production, and market distribution. That’s capitalism.

Iran owns the means of production, that's socialist. All countries have privately owned businesses.

What does our global economy have to do with the fact of your hypocritical unwillingness to live under the economic and government systems you pretend to support?

What would be hypocritical is running for personal refuge in one of the few countries to break the chains of capitalism, imperialism, militarism, and racism, while leaving almost the entire world behind to continue to suffer from them.

No, they don’t.
It is a hodgepodge mixed market economy mixed with Islamic banking and public enterprises. Some 60% of the economy is still state owned, while tens of billions owned by business conglomerates that are made up of a division of Iran’s military known as the Revolutionary Guard (Sepah e Pasdaran). This has allowed for the government to evade sanctions and prop itself up by acquiring necessary funds for projects while keeping its books looking clean. It also employees many Iranians so it is a win win for them. They control a vast amount of wealth in the economy and one wonders how much corruption is involved when so much of the country’s economy is owned by such an institution.

The major educational institutions all teach modern neo-liberal economics, and there are many private owned businesses in Iran ranging from sports apparel to food processing. One of it’s sports clothing companies Merooj, is known internationally.
