Texas Republicans voted to keep a GOP county official in his position after a small group raised a ruckus over his Muslim religious beliefs.

The Tarrant County Republican Party overwhelming voted to keep Dr. Shahid Shafi as the party’s vice chair Thursday. Shafi, a trauma surgeon and Southlake city councilman, was targeted by a small group of Republicans – led by precinct chairman Dorrie O’Brien – who contended his religious beliefs are not in line with those he represents in the county.

But the party rejected calls to oust him from the position Thursday in a 139-49 vote.

Tarrant County Republican Party Chair Darl Easton said the vote “demonstrates we are a party that respects the right of those who disagree on an issue to have a seat at the table and their voices heard.”

“Religious liberty won tonight and while that makes a great day for the Republican Party of Tarrant County, that victory also serves notice that we have much work to do unifying our party,” he said in a statement.

Now, contrast that with Democratic Sens. Kamala D. Harris and Mazie Hirono who think membership in Knights of Columbus is a deal breaker because it's a men's Catholic institution.

So much for religious tolerance on the left, huh.

Well, that’s inaccurate. They raised questions about K of C because it was a homophobic institution.

Article 6, Clause 3 of the Constitution states:

"The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."

So, the GOP in Texas followed the Constitution, but the Dems in Hawaii don't think it should apply...at least not to anyone they don't think it should apply to.

It wasn't about being a Catholic...it was about belonging to an organization that actually donated money to defeat a gay marriage law. While I see it as a fart in a wind storm...the fact is that an organization that is largely devoted to providing a place for Catholics to get together and drink beer jumped into a political issue.

Paper Covers the Rock of Self-Determination

How big a threat was Islam in 1787? How many jihadis were here then? Does this anti-democratic manifesto written in a world ruled by transnationalist hereditary power make you feel safe?

No, they questioned the K of C because it was a Catholic organization, just like they did with Kennedy, the last American loving Democrat.

Twist Every Preppy's Smirking Lips Until They Bleed

I take it that you worship the high-and-mighty lowlife, spoiled brats who'd be nobodies without their Daddy's Money. Unlike what @protectionist claims, the terrorist religion is protected by the First Amendment. That's what's wrong with the Constitution, but the ruling class's enormous propaganda power brainwashes us, the people, to submit to that supremacy document.
