I poked around a little bit, and I note that the UK sets the age at 16. To me, that sounds about right. I know people who had children at age 16, and both they and their children were OK.

In the US, the age is set at the state level, and it hovers between 14 and 17, depending on where you are. The fact, and problem, is that the human body is ready for sex well before the human mind is ready to deal with its implications.
There are places in the US where an 18 year old man can got to jail for having consensual sex with a 16-year old girlfriend. That's wrong. But it's also wrong to encourage the sort of sicko who would pursue a 13 year old, from a 40 or 50-year-old advantage, if it were legal to do so. Personally, I think 13 is too young, but I'm not certain where to draw the line. I've certainly met 14 year olds who I thought were mature enough, physically and emotionally, to enjoy non-problematic sex. Who gets to say they aren't?

Is that after WWII.. there were so many brave young men who died, that all that were left to repopulate where mostly the pusses, weak and the young.. who were raised by single moms.. to be pusses.... good thing I looked - I was betting he was foreign, but probably arab/muslim. he's simply African, and unwilling to assimilate and live by the laws and culture of france.

I cannot imagine why the jury acquitted him. maybe it was a jury of his peers (all immigrants)? Maybe they had coerced underaged girls into sex themselves, in the past?

America's rule (in most states) is that if both partners are underaged, its not statutory rape. however, there is an epidemic (inner cities, and Hispanic immigrant barrios) of males over 18 coercing minor girls into sex. so far local authorities have been inconsistent in prosecuting such cases. they appear to regard drug use, criminal gang membership, and dropping out of high school as mitigating circumstances which relieve these men from responsibility for their actions.

france is hardly the worst place on earth for abusing underaged girls. there is a thriving sex tourism business to places like Brazil, Thailand, and now even Vietnam.

wherever there is desperate poverty and corruptible/underpaid officials, this sort of thing crops up.

d) The Soviets tried to eliminate religions, and failed. Church groups met in basements, etc., used Holy Bibles smuggled in from the West, etc. After The Wall fell, religions in Russia picked up where they left off. Therefore
