Hindsight is 20/20 as "they" say. This reminds me a little bit, of those who suggested that maybe "the authorities" might have done a better job zeroing in on the Tsarnaevs or the Lanzas, prior to their doing their deeds. But, there's more than a bit of fatuosity to those views, considering their hindsightedness. It's disengenuous to suggest that "the authorities" could've focused on them specifically. Instead, they would've had to upped their focus on literally hundreds of thousands of people who fit their profiles. We Americans aren't inclined to accepting the intrusion into our lives, that that would represent. And..we sure as HELL aren't inclined to pay for it.

So as to Cleveland....it's all too easy to think of this house and these deeds going down in OUR neighborhoods. And, I'm grateful to be able to say that if that house had existed in my neighborhood?....it would've stuck out like a gangrenous thumb. Alas, the Cleveland house in question, exists within an entirely different reality from that in which most of us live. So again..hindsight makes it "obvious" that "the authorities" should've zeroed in on this house. But...reason and logic tell us any law enforcement regime that might've paid more attention to THIS house, would've involved their paying more attention to all manner of houses, across the board.

That costs money that the people aren't willing to pay, and engenders discomfit of all kinds and from all quarters, in terms of the people's feelings around law enforcement.

One problem is the Fact that the Cleveland Police has a record already and have been reviewed for it just in the recent past...

They're still under Federal Review, so my opinion is based on evidence that shows the Cleveland Police record is not all that great in the poorer communities...

They did not learn from the Sowell mess, so I will not give them the Benefit of doubt...

Had this been their first tarnish, or been many years since their last one then yeah I can give them the benefit but seeing red flags were raised from Walsh to Neighbors it make my opinion they failed those Girls...

Also this is just not a opinion based on fictional evidence but basing it on their past record, comments from those like Walsh, and other reports...

Frankly, I've grown bored over the years since Reagan was first elected, with the self-righteous who've proudly limited the resources of their public servants across the board, with no real and objective analysis of the potential impact of those limits. BUT....they have no trouble whatsoever, bloviating and thumping their chests as to how our public servants could've done their jobs better.

And again....in terms of this specific case, it's fatuous to consider the "costs" in a vacuum. In order to've confronted THIS particular case as you demand, they would've had to "upped their game" such that they confronted hundreds if not thousands of other cases, where either no crime was being committed, or a whole different class of crimes was being committed.

Now let move this to Three Girls go missing from a upper class community on the same street three years in a row, and I wonder would the case been consider a serial kidnapper, or just run aways???

Then add in Cleveland Police Departmant failure in Anthony Sowell case, the review, and knowing these girls went missing before the review and changes in how missing persons are dealt with...

In the end I feel that the Cleveland Police did not do their best because of their previous record before...

I also believe Castro got away with his crime as long as he did because of the nighborhood, the social class the girls were from, and how before the Reviews against the Cleveland Police Department brought changes allowed him the cover he needed...

So please do not take this as bashing all the men and women in blue that serve and protect us, but as stating my personal opinion of the failures I see from articles, reports, and past evidence that Cleveland Police is that district have a poor record when dealing with missing persons...

I understand resources are limited but I also understand that sometimes when they claim they looked at every lead they're being dishonest attemptong to do damage control...

Also make no mistake that I know some of the claims being made against the department are false and are just for someone 15 minutes of fame, but I also believe some of the claim could be true...

In the end as I have stated there will be no way to sway me on this issue because of knowing Cleveland recent past... I could have been swayed had it been years apart between the Sowell case and the Castro case, but seeing they're just a few years apart make me feel that the Cleveland Police Department failed those young ladies, and that 6 year old child...

My opinion based on much more than my gut...

My rambling isn't intended to defend the CPD specifically. I don't know nearly enough about the case nor their actual reality. What I do know though, is that unless we give ANY entity - public OR private - virtually unlimited resources, without question, there will ALWAYS be instances where that entity could have done a better job.

And..in both the public AND private sectors, the entity that responds to a fail, by whining that they didn't have sufficient resources, gets the boot, posthaste. We DEMAND that the CPD, or the BPD/FBI, or the CIA or whomever, cop to whatever errors they may've made and to tell us what they would do better the next time. But in most cases, it's disingenuous and counterproductive of us to turn their mea culpas back on them - unless we promise upfront that going forward, we will give them ANY and ALL additional resources, they can make a valid case for.

Sure...3-women were held hostage for 10 years. That's badder than bad. But as lame as this may sound, 30 women, or 300 women weren't held hostage for 10 years. Clearly then, the CPD did SOMETHING right. And, I'll continue to maintain that we don't have nearly enough information to go on, to proclaim the fact of 3 women being held hostage a miserable failure, or acutally, a remarkable accomplishment.
