It's no secret that America's sprawling, car-dependent exurbs were Ground Zero for the economic meltdown.
Edict number 1,224,567,891,012. from the Office of the President of the United States.
Due to the many concerns society faces, a few of which are economic, environmental, and medical, and because of the unequal distribution of goods and sevices, it is hereby ordered:
The American Population shall be divided into an equal number of units.
Each unit shall be comprised of an Urban Center. surrounded by an agricultural zone, beyond which no human developement will be permitted.
The population of each unit shall be limited to one million citizens. If the population of a unit exceeds that number, the excess will be distributed to another unit with a lesser number. When all units exceed the maximum, a new unit will be formed.
25% of the population of each unit shall work in the agricultural zone, with that 25% being rotated, so that every 4 years every citizen will have shared equally in farm labor.
Medical personnel shall be divided equally between the units.
Each unit shall provide each citizen of that unit with a 2,500 calorie daily allotment of food.
The labor for the production of other necessities such as clothing and shelter shall be divided according to the individual citizens capabilities as determined by the unit's Mayor and the unit council.
This is an updated version of Thomas More's vision of Utopia on which the left's vision of 'sustainable developement' is based. In the actual book they go into it in far greater detail. For instance More details how defense is provide, how crime is dealt with, how incurable diseases are dealt with (encouragement to commit suicide), religious practices, governing bodies, etc.
The scary thing is, that many on the lunatic left would no doubt whole heatedly approve of such a forced re-organization of society.
America or Ameritopia, you decide.
