Okay, liberals...explain to us all how this is inhernetly racist, evil, and only benefits the 1%ers....and.....GO!!

President Trump on Tuesday announced a $19 billion coronavirus food assistance program to support farmers and ranchers and “maintain the health of the food supply chain” in the United States amid the coronavirus crisis.

"The farmers and ranchers are incredible people," Trump said during comments at the Whtie House. "I’m proud to stand right by their side in this hour of need."

The president said the new program would provide $16 billion “directly” to farmers and ranchers.

“As part of this program, $16 billion in direct payments will be made to farmers and ranchers directly,” Trump said, noting that the program is “authorized by the CARES Act”—the coronavirus stimulus package which totaled more than $2 trillion and passed in March.

The president said the payments would “compensate farmers” for losses they have sustained due to COVID-19. The administration is offering the funds to farmers and ranchers producing corn, cotton, soybeans, specialty crops, beef, dairy, pork and more.

The president said that farmers and ranchers can begin signing up for the billions of dollars in assistance by May 26.

“You need to sign up to pick it up, to get the money,” Trump said. “And we’ll start issuing payments within one week of receiving your application.”

The president said that the $16 billion would go directly to farmers, and that the remaining $3 billion in the $19 billion program is being used to purchase products for food lines.

It's good to see Right-wingers have come around to socialism.

cities/states are bitching up a storm that the "Available" pandemic money is to be considered a loan rather than a grant and they don't want to go into debt, (any more than they already are), I say borrow the money if you need it and become a good enough manager to live within a budget and if you borrow it pay it back.

Trump sure does love doling out corporate welfare to Big Ag. He’s been doing it throughout his presidency.

This was Trump’s decision. Don’t go trying to blame it on others. And as I said, Trump has been doling out corporate welfare to Big Ag throughout his presidency. Calling it “disaster relief” is lame.

If there is a $19 billion coronavirus food assistance program to “maintain the health of the food supply chain” in the United States amid the coronavirus crisis.", is that by definition, "socialism"?

I mean, it isn't exactly like just giving someone what the want or need forever, they provide something in return, right?

"the U.S. Department of Agriculture purchased and distributed up to $3 billion of agricultural products to those in need."

So those who receive this money are providing food for those in need, right?
Sounds ok to me.

"Perdue, on Tuesday, called the program "a lifeline" for families who need food, and for food banks."

SO the farmers should provide a lifeline for those in need of food but not receive any aid themselves?

Odd.

"The food supply chain that begins with these producers…ending up on the family tables is a real noble profession," Perdue said. "I'm honored to be a part of it and I'm particularly honored, President Trump, that you understand, in your heart, how valuable our agriculture is."

Apparently not if you are the one receiving food for your family. Without these farmers at the beginning therr is no "food supply chain", but you are ok with that?

"These boxes themselves will also be going to a mission here in D.C., and we hope that these boxes will play a big role in feeding those who need it across the country,"

Yeah.....….DC.

The one place that has no use for country folk like farmers. Right up until they get real hungry.

They only want free stuff. Generation after generation of these farmers have learned to live on handouts. Pathetic. They should have to pay their own way like the rest of us. If they can't farm efficiency enough to make a living then they need to change their line of work?

Somebody needs to teach them a lesson about bootstraps.

I for one am tired of my hard earned capitalistic tax dollars going to support lazy farmers so they don't have to work and can spend their time posting nonsense on internet forums.

No more handouts for them!

I think it's because so many of come from broken homes. If they had fathers they would have learned the stay off the dole.

Socialism isn’t free distribution without accountability either. It is workers running things for the general benefit. And this isn’t it. But it is good that working farmers and ranchers are at least getting some relief.

Do you want one cartel to control all the agriculture after every family farmer is forced off the land?

Why should we pay people to do their work inefficiently? Let's do what the conservatives claim is the best way - let the market decide. Besides you are making the assumption that "every family farmer would be forced off the land". That's just not true. If they can farm efficiently then they won't be forced anywhere. That's the way it is supposed to work.

Large-scale farming is more efficient than all-scale farming. Since the suppliers, processors, and transportation industry do everything they can to undermine cooperatives, that is exactly what would happen. In fact, it has been happening for generations and in particular has happened at disproportionate rates to farmers who are Black, Latino/a, and/or Native (and whose families therefore will not get the relief white farmers’ families will get from this bill). I am not a conservative and I am not gonna support a conservative policy just because Trump proposes a policy that, for all its drawbacks, is better.
