ox News host Laura Ingraham drew ire on social media on Monday when she called detention centers for immigrant children “summer camps” in reference to the facilities where minors are temporarily held after being separated from their parents as part of a Trump administration policy that’s prompted protests nationwide and efforts by Congress to change its laws.

During her Monday evening show, Ingraham mischaracterized a story in The San Diego Union-Tribune, quoting only from its opening paragraph that described one facility for immigrant children as having many elements that “seem like what one would expect from a boarding school.”

“So since more illegal immigrants are rushing the border, more kids are being separated from their parents. And temporarily housed at what are essentially summer camps, or as The San Diego Union-Tribune described them today as looking like basically boarding schools,” Ingraham said on air.
