That is a sad commentary upon the quality of entry level jobs in some states, huh?
Do you believe that the government should step in to alleviate this situation?
They are entry level for a reason. The people who perform them are low skill or no skill - have little to no work experience and are basically interchangeable with any other unskilled worker. They are simply not worth more than the pittance they are paid to the employer.
The problem is that people think they should be able to support themselves or a family on a job at that level. Not that a job at that level exists. The problem then too is that - there are not enough non-entry level jobs for these starters to move into or our employees lack the skills to do better on their own. There is nothing wrong with going to work for minimum wage. But, after 12 - 18 months you should have gained some work history and some experience, and added more value to yourself and thus begin looking at other positions leveraging your experience.
If you can not do that because you are not qualified for something else - that is not your employers fault and doesnt mean you are worth more. If you are qualified for something else but there is a lack of jobs with higher wages available, then that is something the government should encourage private businesses to do - to expand better and higher paying jobs -through tax credits, exemptions, or tarriffs, etc.
