What I learned from Wesley Clark

I had a beer with the General at the Mile Hi stadium celebration in August 2008. He said
he was sad to find out that the skills it took to become president were not the skills it took to be president.

As I watch the campaigns I find his words to be sadly compelling because we now choose our candidates on skills exhibited in the campaign that do not tell us what kind of president they'd be.

Anybody but Trump!
That's a good thought. It reminds me of the reason in my opinion the way some people choose a certain church or minister. They usually choose the one that preaches what they want to hear and keeps them entertained the most. :(

Good old Wesley. I wish he was running again.

The “debate” moderators are a huge part of the problem. They perceive the issues as “boring” - not good for ratings - so they just ask questions designed to get the candidates to fight with each other over trivial matters.

I agree... that had rather see some excitement not facts that would be beneficial to help voters decide.

We have to watch those idiots trying to start inane food fights and then listen to wingers yap about “the liberal media.”

I'm not actually seeing any skills exhibited in the debates. Just squabbling about how much free stuff will be given away, and which narcotics should be legalized.

Are you old enough to remember Kennedy/Nixon? I am. No name calling, no bullshit accusations. Strictly policy.

What about the Republican debates in 16?

Are name calling, i.e. "little Marco", "lyin' Ted" and "low energy Jeb" the skills it takes to be president? Can you have an honest conversation without the partisan blinders?

so is the ability to answer complex questions in 90 seconds key to being president? Joe won back my support tonight.
He’s back on my consideration list as well. Let’s see if he can keep it up.

Bloomberg did a great job in his town hall tonight too. We’re used to the debates and their horrible formats, where the “moderators” just try to get them to shout at each other, and over each other. That rattles all of them and puts them all in a bad light.
