sep 10 2019 JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A white Mississippi man received an 11-year prison sentence Tuesday for his part in burning a cross near the home of an African American family.

Louie Bernard Revette, 38, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Keith Starrett in Hattiesburg, the Justice Department said.

Revette pleaded guilty in April to one count each of interference with housing rights, which is a federal civil rights violation, and of using fire during the commission of a federal felony.

Because when democrats burn a cross, and there is a lot of history behind this, they are not making a political statement. The democrat burned it on someone's property.

1. Burning the flag should be free speech.

2. All flags by law, should be required to be made of non flammable material.

Your c&p explains why ... his aim was to prevent housing desegregation via intimidation. Which makes it NOT a victimless crime.

How much do you want to bet this guy is not a liberal or a democrat?

11 years is a bit extreme. It seems like 1-3 years would make far more sense. Illegals commit all kinds of REAL crimes and sanctuary jurisdictions let them out like letting the dogs out to run the yard.
Why should this be a crime at all?. This is like hanging a politician in effigy. It's a harmless form of protest and free speech. THINK

Politicians, public figures and citizens are not treated equally in these circumstances even in effigy. As an example consider that it is harder for the politician to sue for slander than it is for an ordinary citizen. And rightly so.

A burning cross is understood by society at large to represent a physical threat to those it is directed at. And if I was threatened like that, if the law wasn't dealing with that threat, I'd be proactive on my own. That wouldn't be a good thing for society if everybody took threats like I would. Don't threaten people unless you really, really mean it.
