Why would Obama buy a doomed beach house for $15 million?

Multiple sources on Martha’s Vineyard say that the Obamas are now in escrow for the estate owned by the owner of the Boston Celtics. Barack Hussein O and Michelle (My Belle) O have been renting the house this summer, they loved it so much, they made an offer. Now, the property originally was put on the market for some obscene amount of money and it didn’t sell. I think it was over $20 million. The Obamas are buying it for $15 million, 14.8.

It has 29 beachfront acres. The main residence is just shy of 6900 square feet. It’s about the size of my library. It has seven bedrooms so that the Obama children will have a place to crash along with several of their friends. It’s got the obligatory pool, the outdoor fireplace, vaulted ceilings, two guest wings, but it’s right on the beach. It’s right on the beach.

The Obamas have just sunk $15 million into something that may not be there in 10 years because of climate change and rising sea levels.

Okay, those of you here with an education. (Which obviously includes no liberals at all). Why would he do this?

And Rush has the right idea:

Well, let’s see. What could the answer be? Maybe because they know that this whole climate change thing is nothing but a gigantic left-wing agenda-driven hoax!

that's funny!! somebody quoting oxycontin Rush like he has a clue!! Yeah, if you live close enough to the ocean where your house and most of your property are only about 4' above high tide, you might lose your house 12-40 years from now, assuming the rate of sea level change does not increase or decrease too much. but I looked at a photo the estate the Obama's just bought, and one picture is taken from the ocean looking back at the house, hundreds of feet away...and the house is at least 20' higher in elevation.

Global warming has raised global sea level about 8 inches since 1880, and the rate of rise is accelerating. Rising seas dramatically increase the odds of damaging floods from storm surges. A Climate Central analysis finds the odds of “century” or worse floods occurring by 2030 are on track to double or more, over widespread areas of the U.S. These increases threaten an enormous amount of damage. Across the country, nearly 5 million people live in 2.6 million homes at less than 4 feet above high tide — a level lower than the century flood line for most locations analyzed. And compounding this risk, scientists expect roughly 2 to 7 more feet of sea level rise this century — a lot depending upon how much more heat-trapping pollution humanity puts into the sky.

No doubt the Obamas purchased this property to give Trumpies something to talk about. It keeps them from facing the fact that Obama was correct when he warned us that Trump was unfit to be president. Every day, every Trump tweet confirms Obama was right.

That property is simply breathtaking... good buy/deal for the Obamas.
--------------------------
“It’s not a done deal just yet,” TMZ says. “We’re told there are contingencies so it’s possible it could fall apart, but we’re told so far it’s a go.”

Grousbeck initially put the palatial property on the market in 2015 for $22.5 million.

In 2017, the Obamas dropped $8.1 million on a nine-bedroom house in the Washington, DC, neighborhood of Kalorama.

There’s plenty more where that came from. As of 2018, Barack Obama’s net worth was about $40 million, from projects like speaking engagements and books as well as the six-figure pension granted to all past presidents, according to a GoBankingRates calculation.

But given Michelle Obama’s bestselling hit “Becoming” — and the lucrative book tour that accompanied it — it’s estimated the couple is actually worth more than $135 million. (Their production deal with Netflix to produce films, announced in May, is another boon to the coffers.)

You can tell that by "looking" at it? LOL! As usual, your "facts" are "bullshit."

The most it can be is 10 feet. It's clearly located about in the middle of the property, with hills to either side of the house. I'd say it's more like 4 feet above sea level.

Yeah, right. Obama rents the Wookie out to sleep with all the rich Democrat donors because he cares about what most of America thinks.

Obama was unfit to be president. Pretty much all of our great economy today was accomplished by reversing Obama's disastrous policies.

That house is up hill a ways. Oceans will not rise that high over night. It will be under water for their grand children if a hurricane doesn't get it first. Either spend that speaking engagement money or pay it in taxes. Just like repubicans do.

You pays your money and you takes your chances.

Or because they got it insured and the costs of doing so combined with the steep discount they got as a result of climate change concerns made it worth it to them since they are rich and can throw money away.

When as many people in the world agree with you as they do with Rush, you'll have room to talk. You voted for a cocaine dealer named Obama, edited.

See, THIS is why everybody here thinks you're a retard. In 92, Algore warned that most of Florida would be under water by 2004. I remember that idiot making the prediction. I work near the coast where major resorts are shut down if there is even a hint of a storm surge from even a modest hurricane. The water levels haven't changed. Forget the idiot edited who rely on flawed computer models; I see it every day. Nothing has changed since 1992. There is a causeway that leads to Sanibel. Most of the beach land would be gone if there were even a foot raise in water levels. The land hasn't changed since the Seventies.

Global warming has raised global sea level about 8 inches since 1880, and the rate of rise is accelerating.

Edited

Yes, the planet warms and cools, and this has happen long before Texans began driving SUVs all over the place. (which is what you
edited imagine is warming the planet.) At one time, the entire state of Florida was completely under water.

The global warming Algore predicted never came.

http://www.ourcivilisation.com/aginatur/pointlss.htm

The earth's atmosphere has actually cooled by 0.13° Celsius since 1979 according to highly accurate satellite-based atmospheric temperature measurements. By contrast, computer climate models predicted that the globe should have warmed by an easily detectable 0.4°C over the last fifteen years.

The scientific evidence argues against the existence of a greenhouse crisis, against the notion that realistic policies could achieve any meaningful climatic impact, and against the claim that we must act now if we are to reduce the greenhouse threat.

Current computer climate models are incapable of coupling the oceans and atmosphere; misrepresent the role of sea ice, snow caps, localized storms, and biological systems; and fail to account accurately for the effects of clouds.

Temperature records reveal that predictive models are off by a factor of two when applied retroactively in projecting the change in global temperature for this century.

The amount of warming from 1881 to 1993 is 0.54° C. Nearly 70% of the warming of the entire time period — 0.37° C —occurred in the first half of the record — before the period of the greatest build-up of greenhouse gases.

Yes, the planet may warm or cool. But only a total edited thinks any human activity is going to (a) warm and entire planet (b) cool an entire planet or (c) influence climate and/or local weather conditions.
The satellite measurements “proving” that the Earth cooled between 1979 and 2014 were an artifact of satellites’ position relative to points on the Earth moving over time. As a matter of fact, it has warmed, as satellite records that take this into account as well as the other 2 major sources of instrumental temperature recordings confirm. The models’ most-likely scenarios have underestimated warming most of the time. Warming of the magnitude we’re seeing today doesn’t just happen out of the blue with no physical explanation. The basic physics of greenhouse warming which were predicted to cause the warming are the reason the predictions were correct.
