You call THAT a big snake?

You remember those cheezy anaconda movies where the big bad monster sized snake eats human beings? The problem being that one can't quite bring oneself to believe that a snake is ever going to get quite that large or be that aggressive as in this photo still: anaconda-strangles-a-man.jpgWell . . . relax. Science has found a way to ease your natural incredulity and therefore allow you to enjoy the visceral thrills of cinema induced nightmares. Witness the predatory, big and very, very bad ancient cousin that would have munched on giant crocodiles for lunch. Yes, say hello to the Titanoboa: http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/upshot/monster-titanoboa-snake-invades-york-224358461.htmlBourque-painting-small.jpg
If this snake slithered by you, it would be waist-high and measure the length of a school bus. Think of it as the T-rex of snakes. This newly discovered species, known as titanoboa (yes, the words "titan" and "boa" are in there), which lived 65 million years ago, is about to have its close-up. The New York City appearance is promoting an exhibit at the Smithsonian Institute's National Museum of Natural History in D.C. opening on March 30, which ties in to a TV special on the Smithsonian Channel called, what else, "Titanoboa: Monster Snake." The two-hour program airs April 1.

I think what boggled my brain was when it was mentioned that the thing didn't just chow down on crocodiles but on giant crocodiles. How would you like to be in the pest control business and then get that call?

"Dad gum Joe, we got another one of them damn Titanoboa calls. Some pet owner just lost the family's rhinoceros to one. We got any of those surplus RPGs left?"
