At the very least, people who would be committing a crime by purchasing a gun should have the failed background check reported to the authorities. Since when don't police investigate attempts to break the law?

For the amount of saber-rattling they do, Dems are remarkably loath to prosecute gun crimes. Possession of a weapon is smirked at and they find excuses to non-pros gang-bangers due to the racial implications.
It doesn't surprise at all they’d support background checks and avoid alerting law enforcement. They wish to cripple gun companies and lobbies, not put away criminals.

That being, an actual valid argument against notifying law enforcement by a failed background check by a person in the country illegally.

If such an argument exists, I'd love to hear it articulated.

Makes perfect sense...just like when every Democratic candidate for prez raised his/her hand for granting FREE healthcare to illegals - just a few years after Dems rammed through Obamacare which FINES citizens who don’t pay and sign up for healthcare.
