Thanks for the link. While Patterson's perspective is interesting, he's mixing (conflating) a few things:

I agree we should move from the prejudices of the 19th (or even the 20th) Century, but to think only Southerners did that and are still do is naive. If you want to win the majority of the Independents in November 2016, you're not going to do it by repressing people, spitting on them, seeking to dominate them or otherwise trying to steamroll anyone who disagrees with your far Left positions.
