and, i hope long posts are ok...i mean, its not twitter is it? :)
It's not twitter, but shorter posts are more usually read. Get to the main point in the first sentence ........then if your post is longer, there will be readers. There are a few posters who do long posts and I read every word. Some I just scroll on by....... so don't be discouraged about length one way or the other.

I love the Irish music. American Bluegrass actually morphed out of the Irish ballads. American added banjos.

The Rising of the Moon is pathetic. It actually celebrates a shameful disaster, the rebellion of 1798. Most of the Irish were cowards and wouldn't fight; those who did didn't know how. For every British soldier who died, ten wild and incompetent Irishmen got killed.

oh yeah..i get it, its not a habit, it just gets me a bit worried when some ppl seem to only participate in discussion with little short burst designed to garner likes, shares and retweets

usually i type it out, then thin it out before i post
thanks
All Republics Go Bananas

The reason for the petty bickering is the powerlessness Americans are trapped in because they won't question the right to exist of basic institutions that minimize us.

yes, normally i only go into a longer post if there is a need for detail or if i think that maybe the audience may not be familiar with the issue

oh, and citing sources--what is the practice here? <<i know there are rules and i promise i'll read them>>

i have no problem with that, only when there are ppl who just look to see if you didn't cite just so they can say "you didn't cite", but when you do they don't seem to have looked at the linked source anyhow!!

i made the mistake of going to a science forum (for other reasons, non political). they did have apolitical sub forum. however, they required citing sources for your own opinions

geesh, scientists,,go figure

Welcome, YJO... I don't usually ask this, but I wonder how you found this particular political board.
You don't have to answer if you prefer not to. :) It's good you chose this one.
yeah..sure

after throwing in anger, digital bricks through my PC screen at some very intentionally dense people while on another site.. i went to GOOGLE and typed in "Political forums for independents"
several sites came up... many were 'dead' or had little activity or just had a operating "software" ( right term?) i was not familiar with

this one was about 6 or 7 down the list, uses xenforo, which i am very familiar with, and seems to be very active

if there are concerns about my being real or whichever-- (i have already been called a russian agent several times ;) ) i can give you the website of the forum i have been a member of for about 10 yrs

Thanks for your reply. I agree, this board is easy to navigate and use. I think it's one of the best.
Please participate and enjoy! :)

It is a good idea to cite sources when you quote someone or some source. We do have rules about that. If you are just giving your own opinion, no need to source that although if you write well, there are people here who will accuse you of copying someone else's words and pretending they are your own.

I am hoping I have landed at a place where the minds are open, actually opened not just stated as such.

You know, so when someone, like me, a libertarian (note no capital "L") who tries his best to stay independent in socio-political thought, can come and say something like:

"Overall, I don't like Trump, but I do think he has done a few good things, like the First Step act and not bombing foreign nations as a first choice as well as getting us disengaged from the middle east"

but then, without hesitation I am accused of this statement being some kind of code like "I am really a MAGA hat wearing trumpster and i am here to disrupt your conversation"

My questions then never get answered and the whole "Shout down, shut down" method goes into effect on anything I post.

the ugly head of Binary Bias has definitely set its claws into the current socio-political climate more then ever.

Sad

I see what is going on now ,not the impeachment but the way that either side's supporters are becoming so verbally abusive to one another and so retracted from discussion and entrenched in their political foxholes as a result of something that started at least 30 yrs ago.

When people started to more and more use personal attacks and gotcha politics, when dems and gop stopped having the exchange of ideas in the search for compromise discarded in favor of finding ways to discredit a person instead of finding ways to discredit the policies they were forwarding.

So, hopefully, I can find some conversation here?

I am a 53 yr old man. I am a 20 yr retiree of the US Army. After retirement, I completed a couple of under grad degrees and a master's all in time to have my service connected injuries take me out of the workforce (grrrrrr!!)

So now, my wife and I work on the gardens and fruit trees we have, I have a large koi pond I built myself and we recently adopted our granddaughter.

"Jobs" of whole different sort

I normally spend my on-line time at a sci fi forum where we do talk about many more things then sci fi, but we have now refrained from politics because it has threatened to rip apart what we have there.

So, thats why I have been looking for other places to discuss things I think are more important then the impeachment of one person who only temporarily holds one office

things related to the ordeal-- for example- "why are we and the EU giving weapons to Ukraine when,as of 2018, it is the 11th largest exporter of weapons?"(is there a thread for that?)

thanks for having me
You are as welcome to post here as anyone who is here now and has been here for years.
Welcome.

The Irish built America after getting rid of limey King worshipping scum. They have contributed as much or more to America than any other of the great peoples that made this country great. In the areas of music, literature and American culture the Irish stand tall. They were the miners, the railroad builders, the steelworkers, the city policemen, the ranchers who tamed the Wild West and the soldiers who fought bravely in every war.

BTW: William of Orange and Oliver Cromwell are among the scum of the earth in human history.

If you have Netflix, watch a series called TURN (Washington's Spies) It's a great series about General Washington's spy network in the Revolutionary War, how they got messages from here to there, the dangers involved, many were captured and hanged, etc.
If you don't like the British (and I don't) you'll hate the bastards after watching this series.
It's based on actual characters in the actual events.

Thanks Jack, I do and I will. One of our fellow members here just wrote a post about what cowards the Irish are, and it really pissed me off. I am 1/2 Irish and I know my people. They are anything but cowards.

Men from my family have fought bravely in defense of our country in every war since the Civil War. Many of our founding fathers were British, but they woke up and risked their lives to banish those arrogant Red Coat bastards and their murderous Hessian mercenaries with help from the Irish, French and other people from around the world.
