Nobody owes their employer gratitude. All anyone needs to do is show up and do their performative dance in exchange for money. gratitude is not part of the equation.
 
So we are in agreement- Nobody needs to show gratitude to their employer.
Nobody "needs" to. But they should when it's warranted. It's called common courtesy. You may have read about it somewhere (or not). For example, when President Trump cut the corporate tax rate, my employer responded by using some of the money they saved to double our health care benefits. That allowed me to gift a health insurance policy to my in-laws, who didn't have one.
