Interesting...how much money does a wind turbine make?

Anyway, the topic was how much money do wind turbines cost? Any thoughts on that.
I posted how much revenue different turbines can bring in. I also posted the maintenance costs. Any thoughts on what I posted?

Interesting thoughts.

Leads to me wonder;

If most of the parts used do come from Germany, how do they get to here?
Wooden rafts and feather sails?

Were does that 60 gallons of oil for lubricant comes from?
Whales?

What are the plastics involved made from?
Petroleum based like all other plastics perhaps?

The resins used in forming fiberglass comes from what?
Ear wax?

How are these turbines and components moved to the wide open spaces they are set up?
Donkey drawn carts?

When the components are built and then assembled, what holds them together?
Wooden dowel rods?

If it is welds, what melts the metals used so they will blend together?
Sunlight and magnifying glasses?

What size carbon footprint does each one REALLY leave?

Probably a helluva lot more than Al Gore's mansion.

revenue to who? the the evil capitalist electric companies? Somehow I thought you would strongly object to that.

my other thought is you are still avoiding the topic...... Why?

The info I provided shows you estimate of 50 years is wildly wrong. That $2 million turbine would produce $700k per year. Given a maint. cost of between $30k and $40k the turbine pays for itself three to four years.

The issues with decommissioning a windmill or replacing blades are being addressed. Do you honestly think a coal fired plant is better? Do you know what those plants do with the sludge that results from burning tons of coal every day? This was the results of a coal ash pond bursting through it's banks..

Vestas and GE are the #1 and #3 producers of Turbines in the US. GE manufacturing is in Florida and Vestas is here in Colorado. The largest manufacturers in the world are in China.

What method do you prefer? Coal? This was the coal ash pond at Kingston, Tennessee after the dam burst..

I made no comment one way or the other as to what I prefer, I merely asked questions.

However, I, like yourself and all the wood shoe wearing Dutch much prefer to rely on the everlasting, pure as the wind driven snow, wind to supply my every need and comfort in life, I just happen to wonder how it will be possible.

So I ask questions.

Care to answer them for me? Put my mind to rest.

Per year. Maint. costs run about $30k per year. Vestas is the largest manufacturer of wind turbines. GE is #3.

Wind turbines can make anywhere from $3,000 to $10,000 per year, depending on the kilowatt capacity and the payment terms of each individual agreement. There are many ways to invest in wind turbines and make money off of the wind energy industry.

Since the average life expectancy of a wind turbine can be anywhere from 20 to 25 years with proper care, this will mean that the 5 kW turbine would live out its remaining 5 to 10 years paying for itself.

Another turbine with a larger capacity such as a 15 kW machine, for example, would pay for itself in about 45 years, which is over 20 years after its expected lifetime.

Solyndra anyone?

Basically it takes 53 years to pay for a machine that lasts 25 years.

Really? How the turbines and blades get to the installation site is an issue for you? Is that because the energy required to build a coal or natural gas plant is substantially less?

The lubricant for a windmill is a reason not to use windmills? Is that because fossil fuel powered plants don't use lubricants?

I grew up in Pittsburgh, pa. The air in the 1950s and 1960s was fouled by the coal fired plants...both power plants and steel mills. The idea is to work on improvements. The fiberglass blades are being studied for recycling. There are certainly other issues that will have to be addressed. If every time we find an alternative to polluting sources of energy we decide that if it isn't perfect we aren't going to use it then we will continue to destroy the planet....

A 5kw turbine? Wow....you zig zag all over the f*king place. You talk about a $2 million price for a turbine (which would be a 4mgw turbine) and then want to compare to a tiny 5kw turbine which would cost about $3,200 bucks.

From your link:

Take into consideration a smaller turbine that might be located on a farm or residential property that has a capacity of 5 kW or less. Considering the purchase price and yearly maintenance costs, this specific turbine would end up paying for itself after a period of 15 years or less.

Mean lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions (tons CO2 equivalent) per gigawatt-hour of energy produced:

Coal: 888
Oil: 733
Natural gas: 499
Solar: 85
Nuclear: 29
Hydro: 26
Wind: 26

Interesting.

Mean gigawatt-hour of energy each can produce today: ?
Depends how many plants are built. Fossil fuels are of course limited by the availability of fossil fuels, hydro by the capacity to add dams, and wind by the space needed for wind plants, while nuclear and solar are potentially practically unlimited.

Interesting.

Mean gigawatt-hour of energy each can produce today: ?
If you’re asking how much IS produced from each source today, we have

Oil: 145,000
Natural gas: 126,000
Coal: 43,000
Nuclear: 31,000
Wind: 10,000
Hydro: 10,000
Solar: 4,000
