At least they can work 2-3 jobs to triple that income, right?

ummm, no. We think that's entry level grunt work. People aren't meant to earn a living wage when they first enter the workforce. The vast majority of them still live at home and are going to school.

Where do you people come up with this stupid BS?
29% of those with wages under $15 per hour are parents themselves. At any rate, the stated goal of the minimum wage was to enable a single full-time earner to support a family.

An individual advancing their skills won’t change the mix of jobs available. At best, it will mean that those adults working those jobs in places like fast-food restaurants open during school hours will be replaced by other equally exploited adults.
But they will have improved. Yes or no?

There is no such thing as a living wage. It's a bullschit term put out by idiot people.

And that statement is a LIE. Most of American workers make MORE than that minimum rate (except for the ILLEGAL ALIENS who can be paid even half of that under the table.)

If you want to make more than minimum wage, get off your fat ass and earn it. Work harder and smarter. Get a degree. Night school is practically FREE.

It's not the employer's responsibility for you to have a roof over your head, snowflake. That's YOUR job. If you're stupid, you deserve what you get.

reason10

Governor
Oh yeah, I see.

But you and I know that that's not the case, is it?
Yes it is.
And as the minimum wage is increased, more stupid people are priced out of the job market.
Tell us again how putting more and more stupid people out of work addresses the problem.

How high is the ceiling?

I laugh every time that folks like you say "start a business", or, "improve your marketing skills".

How's that working out? The pandemic has shown the underbelly of capitalism, and I think that you don't like it as much as I don't.

But you won't admit to it.
Americans do that every day. My first teaching job was at a lowly community college, where most of my students were working another job while attending night classes. They put in the extra hours and hard work to improve their lives. I even used some of my college contacts to direct many of them into higher paying jobs.

Working harder and smarter does work.

Sitting on your fat ass and demanding more money that you're not worth does NOT work.

Governor
Yeah, I've heard the spiel.

"Everyone should own a business".

How would that work out if it became a fruition?

Get rid of the child labor laws?
You mean like children delivering newspapers? I had a paper route when I was 14. That would qualify as child labor.
Or maybe 'splain that wonderful Nike company that pays AfroMoron Colin Kaepernick those millions in endorsement fees can produce those shoes with child slave labor in China.

Here's an idea: Everybody should just work harder and smarter and shut the fck up about their money. This is America, where poor people become millionaires all the time. In the mid-80s, I watched Haitian immigrants who could barely speak English work two, three jobs for a while and raise themselves up to management positions, new cars, nice homes.

In America, you are NOT ENTITLED to a good life. You have to EARN it. So get off your fat ass and earn it.

As a matter of fact, the vast majority of minimum wage earners are part time high schoolers.
And ... I have trouble grasping the lack of impetus. I agree with the need for fair wages and commensurate with the demands of a given role. But not with the notion more money needs to be given to meet the inertia, just because ...

What the Gestapo here is once again failing to understand is ALL wages are fair in the United States (except where unscrupulous employers are paying below minimum wage to illegal aliens, which DEMOCRATS invited to our shores).

A person's labor is ONLY worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

An adult can spend an entire day in the hot sun making mud pies. He can work very hard, even skip lunch. No breaks. And that work wouldn't be worth anything.

Dishwashers do not make as much money as heart surgeons. Gee! I wonder why.

Yes. Best case scenario, they will have climbed to the top of the ball pit that is our economic system, pushing down others who end up being the ones (a number fixed by the terms of the system, disregarding class struggle) who end up suffocating below.

Odd. No.

No one is going to pay more than the market and demand will bear.

The system says. ... educate

Dunno. The point is to move on if it is inappropriate. Not stay there
No, the point is that whether or not this or that person is able to escape inhuman exploitation by superhuman ability and effort, the system requires that tens of millions are exploited at any given time.

Nah..that's a fake construct that you need to make no point ...

The system doesn't require superhuman anything... Just simple effort and education to gain .

Wages are inherently unfair, since they mean a worker creating wealth for a parasitical capitalist as the cost of being allowed to pull his/her own weight.
