Of course they are. They are part of the lifetime compensation for the working class in exchange for their acquiescence to the wages system.
Employees are not paid based on the added value produced by their work, they are paid based on the scarcity of their labor skills and their effective cost of living. The difference between what they are paid and what their labor is worth in terms of added value is the employer's profit.

Part of it is the university's fault for making these things eligible as majors and not just electives. The universities know people can't live on a feminist studies degree, and yet they offer it just like they would a degree in physics.
Universities themselves are some classic welfare queens in their own right. FEW of them could afford to open their doors without milk from the government teat. That protects them from market forces, which means they can get rich off NOT educating anyone and feed their egos all day long.

Tell me how the opening post shows any kind of Republican disdain for low wage workers. Republican Presidents (Reagan. Trump) used policies that RAISED the low wage worker to higher pay brackets while cutting their taxes. Reagan raised ALL boats; took the lower class and made them middle class.
