We have freedom of speech because of class struggle against the capitalist government, of course. Those who have experienced both firsthand overwhelmingly prefer socialism. But by making it about me and the U.S. (where thanks to communism we no longer really have child labor) you disingenuously want to take advantage of the fact that the U.S. is one of the minority of rich countries that are made possible under capitalism by the vast majority and their people being miserably poor, while those countries that are socialist are those that were miserably poor under capitalism, are now far less poor, but have not yet caught up with the U.S. In fact, in China, perhaps socialism’s first big success story, socialism was so successful at creating wealth that it allowed (following the bloody defeat of the working class by the counterrevolutionary state) for the reestablishment of capitalism on a much richer foundation.

You know why it’s called the “First Amendment”? Because it wasn’t part of the original Constitution. You know why it’s part of the Constitution now? Because voters stood up against most of the Founding Fathers to demand it as a condition of ratification and force that demand on their state legislatures after electing a more radical Congress willing to pass it. You know how soon the Generation of ‘76 started violating that? Immediately. You know why it is sometimes observed in practice? Because of folks like the CIO and the Black Panthers making the cops and company goons back down from blatantly and routinely brutalizing people for their free speech.

Not compared to persons in the same countries before socialism, by any sane measure of poverty. Not compared to most of the wealthy world. Certainly not compared to Russians, say, following the restoration of capitalism. Their longer lifespans speak for themselves.
