No, herd immunity means not passing the virus on to others which children who are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms are among the most likely to do.
At a very low and non-lethal rate. Which is the notion of herd immunity. So actually the answer would be "yes" to the question posed. Meaning all children getting sick is impossible so 22,000 dead being impossible also. You do know a number of children die of the flu every year? They catch that in school.

No, it would be very possible for all the children to get infected which has nothing to do with the lethality and everything to do with the viral load ... which doesn't depend on age much at all. And the infected children will pass it not only to other children but also to adults who will also pass it to other adults ...

Yes, the number (for the U.S.) is about 200. Compared to about 600 dead of Covid so far and 22,000 or so if they all get infected.

And when you compare 200 to 600 you're comparing a flu season to the ENTIRE period of Covid.

and 22,000 or so if they all get infected.
But all children can't get infected they in effect have herd immunity much like they have herd immunity to feline HIV without ever getting vaccinated for it.

You're thinking in absolutes.

You do know that kids that get polio vaccinations can get polio from the vaccine (and pass it on to other kids too if I remember). Same with the measles vaccine. And yet we can say that we have herd immunity against both.

Kids have herd immunity against Covid and it would be very unlikely for all kids to get sick with the pandemic Covid. Everybody will catch the Covid over a great length of time but as lesser variants.

If adults are afraid of children the answer is NOT to vaccinate the children. The vaccine will likely cost more in lives and health for children than catching Covid would. It would be unethical and immoral to vaccinate children with the facts in hand at this time.

The TxDSHS Covid-19 Dashboard reported 408 new deaths in Texas today. That's the first 400+ deaths day we've had since Feb. 5th.

No, children are as susceptible to infection as anyone else. They just are more likely to recover from infection quickly than the rest of us. Hence the projection of only 22,000 dead if your strategy is pursued.

Tell that to the hospitalized vaccinated for Covid in Israel, Iceland, the UK, ... So understand that children ... never mind.... find a real good book that rigorously defines herd immunity for you and you'll understand that as of today children have in essence herd immunity.

You better find an expert. I see why you rely on them so heavily. ;0)

A small portion could get polio if they got the Sabin (attenuated-virus) vaccine. Which is why they made the decision to switch to the Salk (inactivated-virus) vaccine, once the increased protection from wild polio provided by the Sabin vaccine no longer outweighed the risk of getting polio from the vaccine due to the success of vaccination. Similarly a small fraction of those getting the MMR attenuated-virus vaccine could get measles from it. Meanwhile the mRNA vaccines for Covid-19 work differently and cannot cause someone to contract Covid-19 from the vaccine. There are very slight risks of a dangerous allergic or autoimmune response, which is why the vaccine is not recommended for children under 12, but the risks are minuscule compared to the risks of foregoing the protection for anyone older.

Herd immunity would mean not getting infected and not passing on infections to others.

Try this on for size first. And then do some more research on other vaccines being administered in the real world today.

Oral vaccine. The one developed by Sabin which I got as a kid. Today the polio vaccine used in the U.S. is an improved version of the injected polio vaccine developed by Salk which, unlike the Sabin vaccine, is based on inactivated viruses. It cannot cause polio, which is why it is the preferred vaccine in the U.S., but the Sabin vaccine, although it can cause polio in very rare cases, provides better protection against wild polio which is why it is the preferred vaccine in Third World countries where polio is or recently was epidemic.

No. You're still talking in absolutes.
Yes. Matters of definition require absolute clarity, and if you are redefining "herd immunity" to mean something completely different from what the term has always meant in the context of preventing the spread of infection, that needs to be made absolutely clear.

Let me make it simple.

If herd immunity for disease X means that 70% of the herd has in some form or other acquired immunity from disease X, does that mean that the remaining 30% can't be infected with disease X?

Play with the percentages and realize that the only herd immunity you're defining is when 100% of the herd has acquired immunity one way (naturally) or the other (vaccinated). Is that what you believe herd immunity means?

You're confusing erradicating a disease and herd immunity. Two different things.

Once you've digested the above, I'll finish with what herd immunity means.

You didn't read the link for vaccine derived polio in Africa I left for you?

Hospitalization have increase by around 60% in the last 30 days. We are already over 100k new infection and 939 deaths with 5 hours to go before the day's reporting is over.

Trump is really leaving a horrible human tragedy in his wake.
No, Biden is doing that, by bringing Covid infected, unvaccinated illegal aliens into the country, and spreading them all over the country. A few months after Trump left office, Covid was reduced to almost non-existent. Then Biden started opening up the border and flying unvaccinated illegals all over the country, spreading the virus around.

The point is that 0% of children who have not been infected or vaccinated have immunity.
