Weekly jobless claims plunge to 199,000, the lowest level in more than 50 years

The only dullards here are you people who are too stupid to realize that tax cuts mean GOOD PAYING JOBS.

Look what Jim Croo Joe's WELFARE storm has done to the economy.

You lefties have no idea what you're talking about. Right now a ferret would score higher on a High school SAT than you, assuming you wingnuts ever make it past the third grade.
So do you have a good paying job? You seem to talk a lot about it. Yet you’re rather obsessed with peoples unemployment pay, which is rather laughable to live off of. And with the child credit unless you’re expecting people to have 50 kids or something…

Not sure where you’re trying to go here.

I'm not obsessed with someone getting some TEMPORARY help through unemployment insurance, (which the worker AND the employer pay premiums for.) Of course, before I take a penny of that money, I'm already out scrounging for another job because I"m not a Democrat. I'm like most of America. I object to government money sponsoring a lazy sit-on-one's-fat-ass society, especially one where fewer goods are being produced and more money is put into the supply. To one who is educated, that is the textbook definition of INFLATION.

That bastard Biden has created a nationwide underclass and has caused the price of everything to skyrocket. He should be impeached for treason.

The only thing that got built back better was the TALIBAN.

It requires more time to jump through all the bureaucratic hoops to get unemployment benefits than to earn the same amount working for minimum wage. That’s why NO ONE is applying for unemployment if they have the opportunity to work for wages, and why with unemployment at 60-year lows the number filing for unemployment is so vanishingly small.

apparently it's very easy to get unemployment and appears you have much expertise of getting it

went from 50 years low now to 60 years low

the low is a leftist lie

Those jobs don’t pay very well. I came into the office to pick up my new work laptop and the kid they hired to set it up used to be a line cook. Now he’s starting at a bottom tier IT job that pays $29 an hour. Shocker that people move to jobs that pay better.

For those roles we have pretty High retention rates. As for other roles, it’s expected that they leave after 2-5 years if they don’t get a promotion

Which has nothing to do with the measly unemployment money that Reason10 covets so much.
Why is it a shocker people move to higher paying jobs? Yet, it's clear here in PJ a 'line cook' can easily move to an IT job.........seems I read it's like a 4 week course!

You haven't posted what state you live in as other leftist, but, if you live in Cali or say NJ $29 an hour isn't a "living wage" leftist post of often......

Workers didn't get an extra $300 weekly as unemployed and I'd guess many workers didn't make $300 weekly after income taxes......

Because you appear shocked that restaurants have trouble hiring. As for bottom tier IT roles like those, you don’t really need much other than showing you’re willing to learn.

I wouldn’t call that a role that requires a “living wage”. It’s a role for young people to explore the field before choosing to grind away at the blue collar aspect of IT or enroll for college. But it’s definitely much better than working at a restaurant or cleaning up old peoples excrements as a nurse assistant.

Real entry level IT roles like security, network, cloud, DevOps, SRE internships pay even more than that for college juniors and seniors. This is the same for our offices in Houston, Atlanta, Denver, Ralieghs as it is for SF and NYC.

Middleview may take that as a insult and the day may come you will need someone to clean your excrements and if someone can go from a line cook to an IT says much.......they better learn to build their own homes

Not everyone can be an IT and not need to eat or be cared for later in life. (appears you may be a millennial+)

Damn, just on nightly news 'HOTSHOTS' are paid $13 an hour maybe they shold become IT's and let Cali burn

You appear to be confused. There are multiple levels of IT. From the support kid assigning work equipment and setting up work stations for employees to new grad network engineer. They’re both entry level but one requires college and the other can be anyone off the street.

What I’m saying is that the later pays better than restaurants and other jobs that are having trouble finding people due to low wages. Will that kid increase his salary as he gains experience and continue learning? Of course.

Sure, if I need to be cared for later in life. I would probably pay my caretaker a decent wage for that time

Which has nothing to do with a modern caretaker leaving their job for a better paying one and considering a shortage for low paid workers.

And nobody needs to eat out at crappy restaurants that can’t even pay their workers properly. Even with the pandemic I notice that the majority of restaurants that were good to begin with stayed open.

Weird, there’s permanent unemployment? Tell me your ways Reason. This is the first time I heard of this. Does it pay better than regular employment? Because that’s poverty money. Not sure why you look up to poverty money like it’s some type of royalty.

Also you seem to like the idea of cutting my taxes… I’m not giving my landscaper a huge raise just because you cut my taxes. I’m probably buying more properties and raise overall rent on poor people.

Well for one… they can’t collect welfare. And two they’re doing manual labor that nobody wants to do.

It’s not rocket science.
It's been proven here many times illegals DO collect Welfare
Hell, I've seen many using EBT cards and I'm sure illegals have filed for Biden's monthly kid's checks..........

As your landscapers you posted of..........or poor renters you have in Section 8 rental property, taxpayers are paying to put refugees in homes=Welfare

They should. It’s all personal choice. If nobody wants to be a landscaper then landscaping wages will go up. Then you”ll have people who will now have to decide on their IT or whatever job and whether or not they would have a better time doing landscaping. Vice versa. That’s how capitalism works. Nobody is assigned a career in life.

If nobody wants to do something, good on the people still doing it. They’ll reap the benefits and can demand more money. Capitalism for the win.

Yup, I currently have two single family homes being built in Montana. One in Houston finished this year and my renter signed a two year lease because they know rent in their area will go up for sure.

Hopefully ETR is one of your renters in Montana...........

They may have signed a lease with Bidenflation doesn't mean they can pay the rent and you will play hell evicting them especially if they have kids........

Well it’s in an upper middle class suburb in Houston. My renters for that property are dual income engineer and new grad pediatrician with perfect credit scores just trying to build their nest before starting a family. Politically, they’re probably what the majority of Houston is. Deposit was $3.5k and they’ve been paying rent on time the the past 7 months so I’m not worried.

Not sure how much someone would get from unemployment, but I doubt it be enough to even cover rent unless you have 40 or 50 babies.

That was not intended as a factual statement any more than the statement in response to which it was posted. Unemployment was actually unusually high for most of the Obama administration, and the lowest monthly rate he reached (4.7%) was actually bested by his predecessor George W. Bush who hit a low of 4.2%.

You’ve proven that you make assumptions about people’s legal status based on things like the language they speak. What do you think should be done about homeless refugees fleeing oppression?
