Uh oh! Masks don't work.

You are talking about fomites - the "science" says covid isn't spread that way:

This study reveals the leading role of airborne SARS-CoV-2 transmission and negligible role of fomite transmission in a poorly ventilated indoor environment, highlighting the need for more targeted interventions in such environments.

Predominant airborne transmission and insignificant fomite transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in a two-bus COVID-19 outbreak originating from the same pre-symptomatic index case - PubMed (nih.gov)

I thought (good) coders were highly logical people. Think about it logically. If there is a risk from fomites, and the masks catch the fomites, and then the people wearing them touch them (All. The. Time.), before touching those same surfaces that would typically sneeze on, for every fomite transmission avoided by wearing masks, there has to be at LEAST one fomite transmission from contaminated mask handling. You are the queen of "that which is seen:

That Which Is Seen and that Which Is Not Seen - Foundation for Economic Education (fee.org)

Now think about masking logically - how is it masks don't protect the wearer, but do protect others from the wearer? How can that be? Do aerosolized virus only travel one way? Of course not, that is absurd.

The Brits have finally come to their senses:

England Lifts Face Mask Mandate, Lets People Return to Offices as Omicron Cases Near Peak (msn.com)

When will we follow their lead?
Yea sure...let's go for it..why not?

You are an expert on this, right?

More so than you (obviously). Of the two of us, clearly, my posting on the pandemic has stood the test of time way better than yours.
in your opinion...but your "success" lies in yout dishonest interpretation of what others write.

I'm referring to whose posting has ended up being supported by the facts. If yours had, we'd be covid free by now.

by the way...your post ignores that even if I wear a mask, your cough or sneeze may intrduce an infection thru my eyes...which is why some people wear face shields...

sure thing...with millions of people refusing to be vaccinated...
If more people followed your advice more people would be dead.

I must have missed all of your posts denouncing the (cloth) mask mandates the past year and a half or so.
There never was a mandate to wear cloth masks...why lie? You repeatedly posted against wearing masks at all. Here is an example of one of your attempts at logic.

o I think it's worth restating the obvious - wearing masks isn't working! And to understand why, one need only refer to the highest profile politician advocating for them - Joe Biden. I saw Joe giving an interview, while wearing his obligatory mask. And I saw him reach up and grab it to adjust it. Take a look around the next time you are out - most people are doing that. And as soon as they do, their mask has (potentially) gone from helpful to hurtful.

Think about it for a second - if you aren't sick but have touched a surface that has covid-19, and then you grab your mask, you have now just gone from a potential infection to an almost certain one, as you contaminated your mask with the virus and are breathing it in the rest of the day. If you are sick, and you touch your mask, you have just contaminated your hand and the next surface you touch, whereas without the mask you may not have contaminated your hand with your virus.

So in your example...someone does not have covid, touches a surface and picks up enough covid material to get infected...you now say that if that person touches the outside of the mask...they have covid....but if they didn't have the mask they would not...oh, I dunno, wipe their eyes or nose and would therefore have been safer without the mask....You also seem to assume that there is no filtration quality to the mask, since what minuscule amount of covid material you picked up on your hand is automatically passed through.

Of course, that means that if you are not wearing a mask and come within 6 feet of someone infected...you're still safe, right?

What you were whining about a year ago was not cloth masks...it was against wearing masks at all.

We were ordered to mask up but told for a good amount of the pandemic to NOT even try to obtain N95 and surgical masks, so that they would be available for health care workers. How is that not a "cloth mask mandate?" Where are all of your posts from that time complaining about how stupid that order was?

And I guarantee that if this pandemic continues, we'll see just as many, if not more, infections than we did when we were wearing what amounted to "facial decorations." You know why? Because people aren't wearing them at home, where 90% of the spread occurs. And even when they do wear them, they aren't wearing them correctly, because wearing a mask sucks.

We ordered 200 masks early on
..maybe february 2020..

do you have a link to when you think someone said you should not buy masks.

WASHINGTON — Testifying before Congress on Tuesday, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Robert Redfield said there is a simple step Americans can take to help in the fight against the coronavirus: Stop buying high-tech N95 respirator masks — and leave them for health care workers who really need them.

“There’s no role for these masks in the community,” he said, speaking of the respirator masks (which are more sophisticated than regular surgical masks) that some people have chosen to wear in public settings. Though respirators could help in settings where close contact with infected individuals is inevitable, washing one’s hands is much more likely to fend off the disease, which has sickened 83,105 people around the world and killed 2,858.

CDC warns: Save respirator masks for health care workers (yahoo.com)

Americans are increasingly adopting the use of cloth face masks to slow the spread of COVID-19, and the latest science may convince even more to do so.

In an editorial published today in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), CDC reviewed the latest science and affirms that cloth face coverings are a critical tool in the fight against COVID-19 that could reduce the spread of the disease, particularly when used universally within communities. There is increasing evidence that cloth face coverings help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others.

“We are not defenseless against COVID-19,” said CDC Director Dr. Robert R. Redfield. “Cloth face coverings are one of the most powerful weapons we have to slow and stop the spread of the virus – particularly when used universally within a community setting. All Americans have a responsibility to protect themselves, their families, and their communities.”

Wow....this is from your link where Redfield said don't buy N-95 masks..

Having originated in China, the virus has radiated both east and west. Cases have been found in Italy, Iran and about 10 other countries. A person in Northern California was found to have the coronavirus on Wednesday night, the nation’s first case of “community transmission,” meaning the patient didn’t appear to contract the virus from foreign travel or a known infected individual.

So when he said that we had one patient that infection was presumed to be from a "community" source. When was it determined it was airborne? Even as late as August 2020 people were arguing that there was no evidence of aerosol transmission.

As I said....there was NO requirement for cloth masks and there was ample information stating that cloth masks were the least effective, surgical masks stopped around 50% of particulate matter and N95 reduce 95% of potentially infected material.

What part of "don't buy medical grade masks" is so hard for you to understand?

Fauci was wearing cloth masks well into 2021. The CDC guidance on masks only changed a couple of weeks ago. So don't act like it has been N95s or nothing from the get go. There was a period of time (6 months to a year) that we were told to wear a mask, but not a medical grade one, so they could be preserved for healthcare workers. If that isn't a "cloth mask mandate" then wtf is it?

One more time - the N95s protect the wearer. If you are worried about your eyes, wear an N95 with a face shield (even though that didn't help Lloyd Austin).

The rest of us are going to go back to living normal lives. After all, even Fauci admits (now) that everyone is going to get it, eventually:

Dr. Fauci: Omicron variant will eventually 'find everyone' (thedenverchannel.com)

So you might as well give up your "zero covid" quest, and get it and get it over with. Once we all have our own natural antibodies, it will simply become just another source of the "common cold."

So glad you can read minds....

Look, any mask tends to limit how much potentially infectious material is emitted in normal conversation and if coughing or sneezing. The N95 does a better job of protecting the wearer, all offer some protection to people nearby the wearer.

If you and I are in proximity and both wearing surgical masks...there is a much better chance that neither will infect the other. Why you don't get that is simply beyond me.

You have brought up the opinions from February 2020 when it wasn't even known to be airborne and there was only one known covid patient infected by community spread.

As far as your advice...it is your opinion vs mine. You have no more claim to medical knowledge than I do. Take your own advice. I'll follow that of the experts.

And it's negligible, except for the N95s. The whole cloth mask zeitgeist was based on "my mask protects you, your mask protects me" and was in place until just a few weeks ago. Now that the "experts" have admitted that this was abject bullshit, cloth masks are (finally) deemed "ineffective" so we are making progress. Frankly, you don't need a medical degree to understand that any mask that protects others from you, also protects you from others. So wear one if you want, and stop hectoring others because they "refuse to protect you from their exhalations." Another factor is the virulence of Omicron - it is way less than previous variants, so it's time to let go of the masking requirement. Me going maskless may make you sick but it won't kill you, like we have tolerated as the price of socialization for 10,000 years. It's time we follow Great Britain's lead:

Boris Johnson confirms Plan B Covid measures will end on January 26 (msn.com)

Omicron Peaking wastewater - Bing News

All covid measures should end - and the sooner the better. It's time to start living normal lives again. You can keep wearing your N95 and face shield if you so choose, but leave the rest of us out of your paranoia.

what sublime arrogance! You may make me sick...and that is ok with you. If you have omicron..and if you have delta?
You may also cause the death of someone compromised, like Colin Powell...and that is alse ok with you...cuz masks are a bother.
