Sen. Lindsey Graham has called for the Julius Caesar-style assassination of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"Is there a Brutus in Russia? Is there a more successful Colonel Stauffenberg in the Russian military?" Graham tweeted on March 4.

Graham was referring to Brutus, a historical figure who assassinated Julius Caesar, and Claus von Stauffenberg, an army officer who tried

Here's a thought...

This situation, this war, reminds me of Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, who on July 20, 1944, attempted assassinating Adolph Hitler. He carried a briefcase bomb into the Wolf's Lair for a meeting and placed it under a table as near as possible to the Führer, and left the room supposedly to make a phone call.

The table protected Hitler from the explosion and Stauffenberg was tracked down and executed by a firing squad at a wall in a building complex in the Tiergarten district of Berlin.

In the late 70's I lived in West Germany and visited Berlin on the "duty train" from Frankfurt to Berlin in East Germany and the wall, which at the time still had the bullet damage marks.

Preserving WW2 history must have been customary with the Germans. We lodged at Flughafen Berlin Tempelhof (airport) and all the walls still bore the scars of war, in the hotel rooms and the dining room. Spooky to say the least.

Anyway, back to Stauffenberg and the present conflict. Surely there must be a Stauffenberg in Moscow willing to stop this madness.

Putin is the President of a huge, powerful and self sufficient country which has more nukes than any other on earth - to call for his asassination is dreadful, unspeakably dreadful - it is insane!

No doubt, your two countries will one day have reasonably freindly relations again but nut cases, with no sense of reality, calling for a popular leader to be murdered by assassins will not help after the dust has settled and you need to trade again, titanium, cement, wheat, coal, steel, minerals are but a few of Russia's exports apart from oil and gas ---- and yes, Putin has the backing of most Russians ( between 60-75% ) over this defensive war to stop war.
I do not know what choices Russia had, or if they had any other choice, but to understand why this has happened is extremely complex - thousands of yrs of complex - it is not white hats vs black! To understand what Russia wants ---- you just have to listen to them, over the last 7-8 yrs - it is no secret and it is not The Ukraine either!

ps if Russia decided to cut off it's oil and gas supplies the whole of Europe would freeze ----- we would turn into a badlands and so on ---- becareful what you ask for. There are always consequences.

Why shouldn’t the people of Russia be afforded the opportunity of a free election in which the opposition party candidate is not poisoned and then jailed. Why shouldn’t Alexi Navalny or any other opponent of Putin be able to voice their opinions and present his evidence to the Russian people and let THEM decide? Any government which opposes free speech is obviously corrupt and devoid of merit. What say you?

Because the government in Russia is autonomous. They have too much power centralized and no longer have to listen to the people. Much like Canada and the US right now

Here in America, opposing views are allowed and it used to be that all Americans were encouraged to vote and take part in our election process. At this point one party is hard at work trying to restrict voting rights by targeting certain segments of the population. This is a prime example of attempts by government agencies (like state legislatures) elected by tiny minorities to consolidate power into the hands of the few. See who votes for and against voting rights legislation and it will become clear which party is trying to suppress the will of the people. Pretty simple really.

That is the ideal, but it is not the case. America is becoming less debate oriented and more authoritarian every year. We used to allow opposing views, and now people are being fired, suspended, and even beaten for their beliefs.

We are truly headed down the same road Russia is on.

People are being beaten and threatened because they believe in vaccination or using masks to be safe from Covid.

People are being fired if they do not get vaccinated...because the alternative is to risk covid infections in your business. We had to let one person go because she lied about getting vaccinated then got covid. Several of our employees had to quarantine from her shift.

This isn't about some academic debate...it is about risk.

Should you be permitted to spout out at a school board meeting that you will kill board members if they require masks or proof of vaccination?

You are here every day expressing views opposed by anyone to the left of you. Has anyone erased your posts for disagreeing?

Putin’s cult of personality is one of the last props of a moribund secret-police dictatorship choking on its own corruption and mediocrity. His assassination would contribute to the advancement of world peace in my opinion.

I feel a bit lightheaded. Maybe you should drive.

We had several who didn't get vaccinated and none missed a day of work, while a number of those who did get vaccinated ended up catching the virus. Your vaccination fascination is over - they don't stop the spread of Covid. There is no reason to fear (only) the unvaccinated.

And then there is this:

Stop demanding people be forced to take an experimental vaccine - it is sick!

Topic is Putin and Russia
Since you derailed she could have gotten vaxxed and still got covid
If you let her go you sound like something Putin would do

They slowed the spread of COVId (not as much as if more people had been vaccinated though) and drastically reduced the rate of severe illness in people who did get infected.

We can now go to Greece unvaxxed. The rest of the world is shut off to us, still.

Who is in jail in the US for opposing Biden?
You are veering away from the subject in hand, middleveiw. Whether or not we approve of how another soveriegn country; at war and under attack, be it physical or economic, from greater powers that be, handles it's dissidents --- and Russia is not alone in quelling them, we have all done it and still do --- does not directly affect, either, this crisis or the call for the murder, in cold blood, of the leader of a great soveriegn power over an increadably complex situation which very very few, in the West, understand.

There are some serious questions about how Kiev is handling their citizens though 1. The reckless act of handing out 10,000 AK-47s to anyone who has a passport --- of course they have all fallen into the wrong hands so there are now running gun battless between criminal gangs in the streets, revenge attacks and so on (guns are usually not allowed) 2. Conscripting men between the ages of 16 and 60 to fight (in a civil war) - physically dragging them off buses, from their homes and off the streets - straight to the front line.
There is a possibility that Russia will push the worse elements of Kiev support toward Maripol, where it seems the 'Far Right' battalians have a hold = creating a badland! I think I have spelled that correctly -
