It's now Desantis' turn at political prosecution.

The problem is…if DeSantis (or any other non-Democrat) returns volley by politically litigating/prosecuting the opposition…BOTH sides will be actively participating in direct destruction of yet another American institution. The erosion of confidence in this country’s institutions benefits only the deconstructionist leftists (Democrats). If they can coax GOPers to go tit-for-tat on this stuff, they will have succeeded in accelerating the decline. Two axes chopping at the same tree…
Ok, so what's the plan? Do Republicans sit idly by as the Democrats turn the country in a police state, as the "President" uses the FBI to run political errands and interfere in elections?

That institution(s) are being destroyed whether the Republicans stand there and do nothing or not. Are we just supposed to buy into the "were going to have hearings".... or Graham "I will get to the bottom of this" (which has never happened once).......

I say chop back, before they get tossed in jail for even having an ax and thinking about using it.

Go ahead. I just don’t agree. When lousy people do lousy things, the solution is not for me to be an awful person. Similarly, when an institution is being abused and indeed corrupted, the solution does not inhere in me joining in the corruption. I’m no pacifist - I just contend that methods and tactics matter.

I agree on not joining in on the corruption but what is the plan? Are the Republicans just going to stand there (like they are) and allow these things to happen because they are afraid people will think they are bad people? Writing strongly worded letters and having hearings is NOT the solution to this.

I don't pretend to know what the solution is but so far what the GOP is doing is complete useless bullshit.

Republicans ALWAYS lose at stuff like this for a reason. They are an agglomeration of weenies. They simply have no fortitude. Democrats completely hold the line on things while GOPers fall apart. Democrats are willing to do whatever it takes to seize and keep power. Republicans will put on a brief show, but are capable of sustaining nothing. Democrats LOVE power and government. Republicans less so. There is a reason for this.

That reason is us. Enormous throngs of protestors amassing in HUGE numbers? Yes, Democrats do this. No, Republicans/conservatives do not. Conservatives are more about faith, family, local community, and careers. We VERY grudgingly accept government and political action as necessary evil and nothing more. Democrats/lefties find transcendent meaning in base, transitory, temporal things. They are materialists and material determinists. Politics and political power is their faith. Those who oppose them are a sort of anti-state/anti-government “antichrist”. This rabid…uhhh…enthusiasm or full-investment into politics percolates throughout the lefty political hierarchies. Politics and politicians are actually missional to these people. I have a very dim view of politicians and government. It both taints and is tainted. Those who infuse it with meaning other than bare, minimalist governing are invariably corrupt.

I mention all of this simply to make the point that if one fights back on that level - according to those rules and standards - he has surrendered his soul. He is lost. Maybe a win doesn’t look like what you think it does. Perhaps it isn’t government and government bureaucracies that we should be “taking back” and fortifying. What if that isn’t actually the battlefield at all - but is instead a lagging indicator of ‘losing’ elsewhere?

I understand what you are saying and in any other time I would agree with you.

However, things have changed, and you are correct I don't know what victory looks like, but ya can bet your ass that I know what losing is going to cost everyone.

What are you trying even trying to "win"?

Is there any indication the FBI is investigating anything other than serious crimes that would have been investigated no matter who the president was?

This is a complete reversal of reality. Republicans consistently do anything to win, whether ratf*cking, voter suppression, Swiftboating, partisan gerrymandering, weaponizing a deadly virus in an effort to terrorize voters, or blatant mass insurrection. Democrats, as the controlled opposition, in turn use ideals of constitutional legality and fair play as pretexts for rolling over and giving the Republicans the win on every issue of consequence.

As is always the case, you present a precise 180. Rather than bicker with you - you are, after all, exactly the sort of material determinist who invests spiritually in temporal state order - I’ll just leave you here to continue in your fulfilling missional calling. Enjoy the emptiness.
