A curious development:

Biden administration requests immunity for Saudi crown prince in Khashoggi killing: 'Beyond ironic'

During his presidential campaign, Biden promised Saudi rulers would face consequences in the journalist's brutal death

The Biden administration declared Thursday night the official standing of Saudi Arabia's crown prince should grant him immunity in lawsuits for his alleged role in the brutal killing of a U.S.-based journalist.

The request is a controversial one after President Biden promised "consequences" on his campaign trail for Saudi officials following the 2018 death of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi...

...The Biden administration's request for immunity is non-binding and will ultimately be decided by a judge, but it is expected to anger human rights activists and many U.S. lawmakers, according to the AP.

Human rights advocates argued that Prince Mohammed and other authoritarian leaders around the world would be emboldened to commit more rights abuses if the Biden administration supported the crown prince's claim that his high office shielded him from prosecution.

Being exempt from prosecution by virtue of being a head of state...Quite a stance this administration is taking, no?

It sucks that every president (excluding Trump) has to walk a tightrope with them just to stop the ME/western Asia from erupting into more chaos.

Had to edit so I won't get called out by 'woke' Republicans. ;)

Procession of milquetoast, pabulum-infused, mealy-mouthing of self-exemption when Democrats do it impending.

These guys were all aghast - they went bonkers about the Khashoggi killing and Trump’s lack of response. Now that the president has a (D) next to his name? Nada. Nothing to see here.

Once again…everything…ALL THINGS… that lefty claims to care about as cause or issue is mere trojan horse for power acquisition and marxism.

Every single time.

I see no one defending Biden’s betrayal here. But perhaps your powers of prognostication have improved since your recent strings of embarrassing failures?

Not a single post of outrage. Not ONE. When a non-Democrat was president, you guys went nuts.

You’re all simply hack political opportunists. Period.

This is wishful thinking but someday I would like to know what the Saudi's have on our Goverment that makes them cave to whatever it is they want, that goes for Presidents from either party...... bending over for the Saudi's is truly a bipartisan effort..

Sigh

It’s easier to give voice to our outrage when half the posts on the board are defending the president’s action. When it is unanimously condemned, there isn’t much fodder for political disagreement. We could all just post “ditto” here but it takes a special personality type to think that is making much of a contribution to any discussion.

Opportunism and weaponizing all events. I’m really tired of politics.
Me too. I would like to see some sane, bi partisan legislation regarding inflation, border security, immigration, health care, crime etc…..After last week maybe enough elected officials will form some kind of coalition which is more interested in serving the greater good rather than gaining and keeping power. There’s always a chance that sanity can return. Our government was designed to practice the art of compromise..

Man, I hope you’re right. All I see and hear is the usual tit-for-tat and waterfalling of “red meat”. I totally get why folks get fed up and go off the grid. It seems like every politician and every pundit is essentially “Don King”. Endless promotions of conflict and fanning of flames. I’m pretty burned out on all that stuff.

Maybe Fox is a tad biased in their reporting. After all, I don't see the Biden admin's response in the article.
But I found if for you, just in case readers wanted the full story.

“This is a legal determination made by the State Department under longstanding and well-established principles of customary international law," a spokesperson for the White House National Security Council said in a written statement. "It has nothing to do with the merits of the case."

The spokesperson referred further questions to the State and Justice Departments.

In a document filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, Justice Department attorneys wrote that "the doctrine of head of state immunity is well established in customary international law."

Justice Department lawyers said that the executive branch of U.S. government, referring to the Biden Administration, had "determined that defendant bin Salman, as the sitting head of a foreign government, enjoys head of state immunity from the jurisdiction of U.S. courts as a result of that office."
